Zavvi placed into administration

What the hell is going to happen to all the Virgin Mobile sections of the Zavvi stores... I'm pretty sure they are still very much under Branson but they rely on the actual Zavvi store to operate out of.

Oh and for god sake will people shut up about Tesco & Asda (Wall mart) it's petty and stupid. And when this thread is about thousands of people loosing their jobs it has no place here.

I wouldnt shed any tears if Currys went under.

:( But it's the home of cheap electricals IMHO, I bought two Samsung 50" plasmas for £700 each with free delivery. And I was able to judge the picture quality first by walking into the store. And no this isn't a plug, but I also got a wii with mario kart free before other peeps were doing the deal. Though I do agree, online stores are the way forward for convenience and range.

Popped in yesterday and picked up some bargains. Not everything reduced though unfortunately, but still managed to pick up Serenity and The Manturian Candidate for £1.99 though!

I used to work in the Reading store and we were consistantly breaking sales targets along with many of the other stores. The business itself was in very good shape and one i loved working for.

The Slough Currys (Bath Road) has totally rebranded with a new logo complete with UV lights outside the shop, what a waste of money! Strangely the new logo doesn't appear on the website or adverts yet.

Not really, rebranding probably does a lot for saving corp tax bills, so probably not actually costing the company that much

I've not got a clue about how much it would cost to be honest, so I'll take your word for it. :)

How much do you think designing a new logo and rebranding/refitting all 400-odd stores, stationary, website, products, adverts and staff uniforms would roughly cost then?

I'm sure they wouldn't be creating new positions / director positions if they were struggling.

It's a well known fact that when companies are struggling that they increase the number of directors so that they can spread the risk/debt etc.........................

They've done the same with one of their Reading branches.

Not entirely convinced it's a good move, they new logo didn't stand out at all in daylight. I'd pulled into the retail park not knowing which stores they had, and almost entirely missed the Currys.
