never one to indulge in an evangelical writing style, Zeldman's been at it on ALA today in a very interesting (albeit ardently enthusiastic) article on what web design is, and what web design is not.

a quick heads up for those who would have otherwise missed it

you'll hear no argument from me on that one, but he does make some pretty valid points there.

I think his main problem is that he's been doing what he does for so long, that he's forgotten that he didn't invent the internet. It doesn't help that he's successful and has such a sycophantic following! I see him as the Gordon Ramsay of web design.

Fair play, indeed he does make some valid points.

Regardless of the article, at the end of the day he's a designer, so when he tries to get technical over certain issues (such as in DWWS) he fails - he should stick to what he's best at! That and his irritatingly smug writing style. :P

What are your issues with this article out of interest? I don't really go out of my way to read ALA or Zeldman these days, but I quite liked this article actually. I think he has some unrealistic expectations, but other than that I don't see a problem with what he's saying. Maybe I missed something though, I skim read it mostly. ;)
