Zen APUs to use HBM??

Was talked about ages ago, will be a massive hit if AMD use the HBM in the way Intel do with edram. Use it as a very fast near cache if gpu is not being used etc.

Then ddr4 as far cache. The edram gives a nice boost to the Intel 'c' parts that use it. The 5775c can beat a 6700k in most situations at stock. Only once the 6700k is overclocked to its max does it edge ahead.

If true it'll be interesting to see it's effect, Ram speed has a lot to do with the performance on some APU's so if it also has that effect it's a great move by AMD.

I imagine the next gen consoles will be jumping on it too.

I wouldn't be surprised if we see 7970Ghz/280X or better performance with those IGPs. Which means some good gaming laptops from AMD also.

Not too sure about that, even with a new 14/16NM GPU part of the chip giving 280x or even the more modern Tonga based 380 type performance the GPU part alone would need 90W/TDP or thereabouts ( that's about half of what the currant 380 needs.)
The most power hungry APU to date has only had a TDP of 100W, so I reckon squeezing in a nearly 100W GPU part and the CPU part would be a tough job. But saying al that maybe it is possible.

apu cannot take off unless it uses HBM, or or some other memory like 5 times faster than gddr3 apu have right now, and everyone has been waiting for this, there will be a significant performance jump in next gen APU

Apparently Sony are working on upgrading its PS4 to be 4K capable. que new APU inside.

At the moment PS4 games run at between 720P and 1080P, the new APU needs to have 3 or 4 times the horsepower to run games at 4K.

They have to make PS4 capable for VR. Which needs a lot of grunt power, hence 4K 30fps means that at 1080 will be x4 times the fps, and 2560 bit less.
But within the range needed for VR to work. Because you cannot play VR games with 30fps.
