Zen are increasing usage allowances

I don't understand Zen.

What do you actually pay for that makes them stand out from others?

I was with Zen for about 12 months before I switched to BE and to be honest, the service is the same (good) but without the small transfer caps and high price.

If I could get an LLU service BE/O2/sky etc I would switch instantly, but I can't, so it leaves fewer choices. I also don't like the idea of a 12 month contract, which means even fewer choices.

Ah fair enough then. :)

Also, I'm on BE with a 1 month contract, so no worries of being locked in.

WOW this sweet news. Zen are very very reliable and have top notch support, so i don't mind paying the premium for piece of mind.

That has made my day. I've been stuck on Home 1000 for a few years now with 100GB and I could do with a line speed upgrade and I refused to jump donkeys ago cause I didn't want to drop from 100GB to 25GB but 50GB is very acceptable for me.

Its a long time coming especially when your paying £30 p/m and now I can drop down to £25 p/m. I might upgrade my account asap and get used to my new speed.

Cheers for that update.

They offer good all round pings and data throughtput nearly all the time, and have good customer support, and critically, do it all via BT's standard ADSL network. You have to remember a LOT of people cannot get LLU broadband (the likes of BE), Zen provide a service akin to decent LLU (bar caps), without the requirement of actually being able to use it!

I never understand the thing with Zen used them about 4-5 years ago on Adsl the service was no better than what i am on now with 50m cable, its never been off in almost 3 years now and constant speeds on 20 and 50.

depends on where you live and how you use your connection.
i used to have 10Mb cable and play online fps and it was unplayable with the lag, i moved to adsl it it was fine.

Good news, time for me to move to Zen,.... been with Newnet for 4 years great service , but £22 a month for 20GB !!!, the joys of having no LLU service

Thought ill bump this instead of a new thread

We are doubling our monthly download usage allowances on all our broadband services from the 1st April 2012 - including our range of fibre optic broadband services. Now you can enjoy twice the usage and the same reliable broadband that you’ve come to expect.

Users of our entry level 'Lite' will enjoy a generous usage allowance of 20GB which is equivalent to approximately 60 hours of standard definition BBC iPlayer viewing. Usage on our top of the range Office Max will increase to a massive 2000GB.

You don’t need to do anything...your download usage allowance will automatically increase on 1st April 2012 and there will be no changes to the prices for your broadband services.

This is good news, looks like i have a massive amount of data now a month. Just waiting on the FTTC regrade to be completed. :D

I was with Zen for 6 years and I left and joined BT Indinity. I dreaded the move but it's been a fantastic move.

Even with Zen's double quota jump, their cap is still crap for the money you pay for their fibre service.

I can't see how anyone can compete with BT infinity, the service is just awesome and when I have used the support when my line was poor they was excellent.

Support isn't outsourced.
Traffic isn't shaped.

I never needed support with Zen and I haven't needed support with BT so far to worry.

I use newsgroups instead of torrents so speed is always maxed no mater what time of day it is.
