Zen cap the legacy users

what on earth do people download to use 100gb a month or even close

i couldnt manage that if i tried?

Dang cant get into Smart Portal either, gonna email there customer services and ask for assistance maybe they can reset it of give me a proper user/pass for it....

Ive never been able to get into smart portal to do anything tbh... just prompts we dont know who you are and your not listed despite entering in the Zen email or even the connection Zen names!

Ive emailed there customer services to provide me with 6 months Usage figures/ or resolve the portal issue for me.

Now lets see how good there Zen Support is, and this is the 1st time ive emailed for help in like 2 years or something ;)

Did you register for it? It's separate from your ADSL to a point.

Zen are one of few ISPs around that have no traffic shaping or any of that crap.
I also am pleased that Zen don't have any form of port throttling or traffic shaping.

Slightly off topic, but I went into my Zen Portal a few minutes ago and noticed that I haven't used any bandwidth in 3 days

This must be wrong as I am bound to have used a few hundred MB at least (I normally use between 3 and 5 GB a month).

Isn't it that you need to resync your modem before the amount downloaded will show? So if you've been connected for the three days it won't show anything.

Got this the other day. When I first heard about it I thought 'Oh dear...'. Then found the cap is 100gB and I think that's very reasonable. Just so long as they don't reduce it too low or start port throttling/traffic shaping etc. I'm fine with it. My peak usage for the last 3 months was 29gB.

null :)

100GB in my eyes is an exceptable usage, no way someone can download 100GB and actually watch, listen, play etc everything theyve downloaded

Indeed 100gb is a lot of files, i can see no way people are downloading legal files this way. There just wouldn't be enough stuff that they require to use 100gb a month.

Honestly if you're thinking of switching ISP because a 100GB limit isn't enough for you, then you're going to be perpetually raging against the world for all it's injustices. I can't think of one single reason why you need over 100GB a month of data.

Well just an update on Zens support

That email I sent on Sat.... well no reply and its almost Tuesday now.

As always I dont rate a company anymore on its service not untill I have a problem or need help and so far Zen have failed... not even an acknowlegdement email to say thankyou for contacting Zen email....

Very poor support, but on the + side never have had reason to contact them cos there service is always running and stable and never down ;)

Still wish I could check my usage....

I had that on F2S a few months ago, they were "upgrading the bandwidth monitoring system"

As far as the other part goes yes they are advertising a "unlimited" service, however as a business making a loss on these customers I don't see the problem.

I do have a problem with throttling as it adversely affects applications, however usage caps are quite understandable.

As for the downloaders I'm guessing that the majority are using it to download illegal content anyway, and tbh they've no-one to blame but themselves, downloading 100s of Gb a month is a ridiculous amount of data.

People will eventually realise that ALL ISP's are going to be capped soon - AOL are likely to be the only uncapped service around.
Just look at the cycle.
Everyone says "Where shall we go - oh look, they offer unlimited/uncapped we'll go there".
A few months pass, those people who feel the world owes them a living download their games, applications, porn.
Then, funnily enough the ISP gets a little upset because too many people are simply taking the **** and the caps are introduced.
Then we start again.

Who is the current "leechers" favourite?
If they aren't capping now I can guarantee they will be in six months time.

Well I too would say that anyone download that much data is downloading illegal content and cannot really complain.
However, apparently, it's all games demo's and Linux distributions.
I've really got no idea how they then find time to play the demo's or install yet another Linux distribution - but apparently we shouldn't jump to conclusions because that is what they are downloading.

I haven't said all downloaders are downloading illegal material, I've said the majority.

There are a few out there who have to download every linux distro, msdn subscription, open source app and game demo known to man.

All I can say is what can you expect, I'd get *censored* off if I found I'm being throttled to the extent that I can't do what I want on the net, and as in most cases it's the minority spoiling it for the majority

I am not suprised that they have done this,But surely they will have to reduce there price from £35 for 2mb capped at 100gb.The whole point of when i signed up to zen was it was uncapped and for £35 it was a pretty good price.I use more then 100gb so i will try find a new isp befor march.I cant realy complain about zen as they have been best isp i have been with.I was thinking about changing to BE unlimited befor march that is if my exchange is upgraded in time.

I could, quite easily. We have a 40GB limit and only 512k net though, so I can't.

If we had 100gb limit and 3mb+ internet I'm sure a fair bit would be used purely on browsing. Then the other bit on game demos etc. I doubt we'd ever use it all up.

I'd be able to use it all up very easily if I tried though :p
