Zen competative with skylake on price and performance

All about context.

With 2016 software exclusively, an FX8350 would compare very favourably to a an i5 2500K for example.

With improvements in software, and by the time Zen arrives, with the minimal performance improvements by Intel, it wouldn't be surprising if a CPU only 20-30% faster than a stock FX8350 (With the same OC'ing headroom) could compare favourably to an equally priced Intel. All again, depending on what benchmarks (Ergo, context).

But who knows, Zen could be some monster chip.

If they have achieved microcode and near IPC parity then it will be interesting. And as i have mentioned before, intel will more than likely need to change how they differentiate i5 from i7, since AMD are more than likely to keep SMT enabled on all of their parts.

If AMD achieved near IPC parity (Hell, even getting Ivybridge IPC consistently) would be brilliant, obviously price dependant.

If AMD could match every product Intel made, they'd certainly price them up there too though IMO, given how Lisa Su is, and how their GPU's have went.

will be intresting to see actual 3rd party benchmark results once its released.

I have mainly always run AMD machines until I built my 4690k rig last year.

I was really impressed with the performance from the 4690k even compared to my FX8350 so yea if zen can compete with skylake and they still have a good price range then I would consider going for one in the future.
but if not ill be staying with intel and going for an i7.. after building my current system I really wouldnt mind dropping the extra cash in on a CPU especially if I know its going to give me the performance I want

Im still tempted to drop an i7 4790k into my current build if I do ill be staying with this for a while.

If Zen is lower then Skylake, people are still going to buy Skylake and no AMD certain benchmarks where Zen is on par with Skylake isn't going to cut it. ;)

a lot of people got burned when employees from AMD hyped the **** out of Bulldozer on this board and others.

I'll wait and see what happens :)

thats my thoughts if its not a large increase in performance over skylake I would rather spend my money on a 4790k and run with what ive got.

If Zen matches Sandybridge performance per core and overclocks reasonably well it's going to be a monster chip. Everything on AM4 so no more +- between Z or X chipsets is a big advantage.

On the flip side in the last paragraph he is clearly stating 'close' to Intel and identifying as being the 2nd place performer. We will see, I want Zen to be awesome - actually I want Zen to give 90% of skylake performance for 70% of the price as that is what will draw me to them as a customer for my next build - but time will tell.

Amd will more than likely price the highest 'Summit Ridge' Part near top non-HEDT i7. But even if it is broadwell levels of performance it will have the extra 4 cores and 8 extra threads overall compared to the top non-HEDT i7.

I shall reserve judgement until it's actually released and reviewed. So much hype and bs has come out of AMD in recent years leading up to a product release only for it to turn out to be mediocre or a fail. Just wait and see what they give us.

You could say the same about Piledriver if your criteria for measuring processing performance is games, most of which today are GPU bottlenecked.
