Zen news 'Going forward'

Same here, I'm currently running a 4790k ATX mid tower build but I'm hoping that AMD will give me the chance to build an ITX rig in 2016 with more than 4 cores that can at least match Haswell's thread performance. A decent performing 8 core and a die shrink card should make a great build that will last a good while now that the new techs are on the table.

Interesting news for Zen followers.

If its +40% on top of Excavator, as the slides say; its as fast as Haswell per core per clock.

That'd be great. If I can build an 8 core ITX with that performance next year I'll be very happy.

I have this impression in my head that Zen is not a high end chip but more apu like?

In which way?

They are doing Zen apu's but I was expecting the FX replacement to be on-boardless. I think I'm misunderstanding what you mean though.

That's the thing, if you want an e-core and don't mind the cost who's offering the fastest cpu's is not likely to change but if you want a mainstream priced cpu and would like to try something with more than 4 cores they'll be the go to option if they deliver. I'm on a 4790k at the moment and it was pushing the high end of what I'd like to pay yet the replacement has gone up in price by quite a bit and rumour is there's no plan on the next gen going beyond 4 cores.

For me as a gamer a lot will depend on how they game, Will games be trending towards using more than 4 cores and will it make a difference?
