8600GT (ForceWare 156.69 - according to TechPowerUp GPU-Z 0.0.5)

It starts off okay and then it started to REALLY stutter a second ago. I was playing a 8 man map with a 1024x768 with everything..well, when i say 'everything', there isn't much to configure but it was set to high anyways. Am i expecting too much?

Sometimes it stutters on other maps..just slows down but just now was awful. :(

Zero Hour is also up to date.

EDIT: It just crashed, argh!
EDIT2: Just updated to ForceWare 163.76 :o Will post updates.

Been playing Generals fine on my Inspiron no problems, Same specs as you, I just have a 2gb Proc..

Hmm, after a quick google...it seems a certain map - twilight flash or something like that - lags a LOT as the AI tries to drive off the cliff tops or something like that..the game lagged less as more enemies went and i had to manually kill the units trying to drive off the edge.

I won though. Nuke General. \o/

This game is poorly coded and will eventually cripple any PC...yes even quad core :p

As mentioned the AI is poor and as you play it tries to more units places they cant go, this begins to lag then eventually crashes. You can try blowing up the group of units that is causing the problem and the game will spring back to life again. The problem is worse on non official maps becuase modders spent little time on creating AI movement paths

Zero Hour is a good game but its difficult to finish large multiplayer skirmishes due to the bugs, I suggest you give up and goto new C&C3, Sup Com or company of heroes

Sounds like gfx corruption - uninstall the game as well as generals, uninstall gfx drivers reboot into safe mode stick on latest drivers - restart reinstall Generals and ZH and then run it - if no joy run a stress test.

At least your Zero Hour is actually running. On my system in sig, generals would work fine but Zero Hour just sat on the desktop for ages, then the splash screen would appear then nothing would happen. Posted about this a while ago but didnt get anywhere unfortunately.

In youe ZH folder (My docz /ZH) the options.ini file - tried playing around with the settings in there specifially the resolution?

Also using the drivers that came with the carD?

I can certainly have a look at the options.ini file and see what i can find.

It has only stopped working since i upgraded to the C2D so was thinking that might have had something to do with it.

Just got the latest ATi drivers so will give it a go with them, never got round to using the original ones that came on the CD as GFX drivers are one of the first things i download/install.

Will give it a try when i get home tonight, thanks for the reply though.

Happens a lot for me when the stupid ai tries to drive off a place where it can't go, it's the AI causing the lock-ups, on a core 2 duo 3.2 ghz here.

My own problem with both zh and stock generals is that it whines about my directx or gfx card is not sufficient, saying I need to install dx 8.1 ( I have newest 9.0c ) or update my gfx card ( 6800GS ), anyone know how to fix this, easy info says my pc passes all requirements ?

Try setting CPu affinity to make it only run on 1 core, can be done through task manager, It may help with startup issues.

The game is basically too old now..... :(

I did give that a go, but after i start up the game, whether i set the affinity or not, the program file disappears from task manager, lol, and the processes tab.

Is a right pain as was looking forward to playing as the chinese nuke general again.

Sorry for the double post. Just got home and looked at the MyDocs/ZH folder and there is nothing in it apart from 2 blank notepad files saying 'releasecrashinfo' and releasecrashinfoprev'.

All very strange.
