Zero spending, could you do it?

How long could you go spending zero money, not including food and bills.
A week, a month, a year?

With today's consumerist society how hard would this be? We are programmed to spend, to buy, to consume, to go against societies norms could you cope?

Rent, mortgage, utilities, normal food budget, transport costs excluded.

Not getting rid of stuff, how long without acquiring more stuff.

I think it would be an interesting experience, not sure how the economy would take to it, if we became poor consumers.

I rarely buy stuff.

Dishwashers to me are top of the "stuff you can manage without" list.

Got one used for a week, never used it since quicker to wash up

I will try to spend nothing but bills and food in January, no beer, no cigs, no chocolate, no gadgets.
