Hi

Not seen this mentioned anywhere yet but the Asus site has a new section called "Other" when looking for downloads & Xonar cards .. in the section there is a new patch to fix Bioshock & Half Life 2 problems with EAX in Vista including the lack of 5.1 surrond ...

not tried them yet as just reinstalled Vista but wil give them a run through later if no one else does :)

Cozman

edit... damn i always get Zonar & Xonar wrong .. lol .. so ive used both in this thread to cozfuse ya :P

EDIT 2: ... well good and bad news for me .. good news is they released a patch ... bad news is it does not work for me on Vista x64 using a D2 so far .. checked Asus forums but couldnt spot any help there & only one post asking how you install the patch

Hi

well ive tried several installs of the patch , with admin rights , setting security levels to allow all ... not sure if its me but im not sure the patch exe actually does anything but ask to reboot .. lol

the issue with Xonar & Half Life 2 ( in fact all source based products including Portal & TF2 ) was that even if setting speaker config within HL2 to 5.1 it wouldnt stick and always revert back to & only allow stereo using analouge surround speakers

On the Steam forums it was posted that the issue was caused by the source engine & not the Xonar drivers but Asus seem to think otherwise if issuing a patch .. lol .. even if it didnt work for me

Bioshock just freezes during loading with GX enabled but runs fine without or by disabling EAX in the game so the patch doesnt do anything to solve the problems on my PC & Vista x64

Oh well maybe the next set of drivers will be "Finals" & be the best yet as they are improving with each release :D

OK i can report a partial sucess now ... Half Life 2 / source engine games will still only run in stereo 2 channel over analouge for me :( ... but ... Bioshock now runs with EAX enabled :)

not sure what i did to solve it though .. lol .. ran the 32bit installer with no reboot , ran the 64-bit installer & rebooted but during reboot went into Vista x64 safe mode & ran the 64-bit installer as admin from there

so 1 of the two problems solved here .. but still no surround in source based games for me yet

Mine doesn't revert back on HL2/TF2. :)

I'm on a DX though, maybe that's why. :D

Possibly because your using Digital speakers ??? .. lol .. the issue is with analoge surround speakers i believe so us cheap skates suffer .. pffft :P
