When theres an alert asking you if you trust this file exe or any other type of format, How can you tell if its malicious or not? ZA don't clearly state the problem.
Good point. I suppose if you recognise the exe or process and you know its safe you can allow it. Isn't there a "More Details" kind of hyperlink on the pop-up somewhere? You can click on this and it shows more detailed info on the exe or process.
Apologies for not being on the ball but until a week ago I was running ZA Pro so I should know. I'm now running Sunbelt Kerio firewall and I'm much happier with that.
I haven't a clue if it's safe or not, i did a search on these files that i don't know whether to trust or not, but it didn't appear to show any signs of the the exe. If you could provide me with links to a website that indicates what these exe files mean that would be very helpful. I did click on 'more details' it doesn't give you any description about the file in more detail.
zonealarm pro asks you that question when you install a program and after reboot/install it wants to execute a task. That is when zonealarm ask you when you want to allow it or not.
If you are just surfing the net and a program wants to access somit then it is likely that it is a virus.
What you can do is "search" for the file that zonealarm is asking you about.
When search does it find then right click properties and it will show more info.
It only asks when when i install a new program or when my ip changes.
Anything other and most likely its a virus/trojen on the webpage
