I have re-installed Zone Alarm after a format and now the PC takes ages to start up, it gets to the Welcome screen and hangs for about 20 secs. I have uninstalled ZA and everything works fine!?!? I have tried the latest version of ZA and an older version and I am still getting the same problem. Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks!

Perfectly safe if you have a router with hardware firewall as well
Agree with him! Win Firewall use only with router :D

Zone Alarm is utter rubbish. Uninstall it now, and just use the built in Windows Firewall. ;)

Thats what I have done, does anyone know if my router (Linksys BEFSR41) has a firewall built into it?

yes it is a NAT device so that provides you with great protection. If you want to stop programs going out on top of that kerio is recommeneded over ZA usually.

Personally i use a router and leave the windows firewall on anyway. Antivirus and anti spyware are more important as well as patching your box

Stopped using zone alarm becuase it gave me "connection interupt" (lag spikes) all the time when playing CoD2 online.

Kasperspy lieks to give me lag spikes too! Yeah! High five!

Anyway, Windows Live OneCare is pritty decent and it uses minimal resources and doesn't do the dam lag spikes i get, usually ~0-1% cpu usage when not scanning, and ~10MB when idle. When scanning its obviously higher, but who games while they scan anyway? Also, i liek the build in tune up wizard. Cleans your drive, Defrags, Scans, Updates, Updates using Microsoft Update then reboots and your done. Nice and tidy.
