zone alarm

is zone alarm any good as an anti virus program or should I just use this as a firewall.

I've never considered ZA to be a good AV. Not compared to NOD32, Avast, Kaspersky etc. It could be a pretty good one but it smacks of a company trying to move into adjacent markets by blending their firewall into a a FW/AV hybrid.
I think NOD32 and Kaspersky can be counted on for a low memory footprint if that is what you desire. I do find it ironic that ZA's av detection module only detects its own ZA av.
When I first installed ZA I couldn't understand why it wasn't detecting NOD32 until someone said it didn't detect any non-ZA avs.

Get Comodo, im finally free from the terrible Za, PC restarting when the True Vector Engine decides to go **** up, some online Videos it doesn't agree with making it restart, web pages messed up, and the list goes on, get Comodo, its free, its great.

Quoted for the truth - I had ZA running for a while but then every so often it would stop me seing the 'net unless I restarted it.

I never had any problems with my PC that I could attribute to ZA. However I just thought I should see what else was around and found Sunbelt Kerio when a flatmate tried it out.
I now think that ZA's interface leaves much to be desired. Sunbelt Kerio is much cleaner an interface and I'm saving 50Mb of RAM I reckon. I also believe some website problems I had may now have been due to ZA but I never linked them.
So overall I'd not recommend ZA anymore. As Sunbelt Kerio is essentially free I'd now recommend almost anything other than ZA so Comodo or Sunbelt Kerio are surely the new firewalls to run.
