Hey all,

Does anyone else feel the 3090 is slow? I have 64gb RAM, 3900X, 2560x1440 and in metro everything on extreme I get a whole 60-80 FPS.

In 3D mark I am getting
12452 in Port Royal
and
17526 in Time Spy.

I came from a 1080 FE.

The card is boosting with stock settings to 1900mhz +

any feedback would be appreciated .

Windows power management is shocking.

You can set affinity and power plans any way you want, I use process lasso to automate this. This gets the most out of any game/program accordingly.
If you don't have AMD's chipset drivers, these have the Ryzen Performance profile.

Works wonders. This is assuming this hasn't been done already and the card is actually okay.

my guess

  • crap windows bloat
  • slow ram (3200 or lower) / high timings
  • low resolution
  • CPU to hot to Boost
  • metro is quite cpu heavy
  • extreme is ridiculous settings (like 8xAA MSAA)

The ideal for the 3900x is 3600mhz as the infinity fabric runs at 1800mhz by default.

Running slower Memory will create more latency at a cpu level and lower frame rates.

Seriously, people are thinking a 3900x is a bottle neck?? Heard it all now :p

3900x in some games are limiting the FPS even on my zotac 3080 trinity oc not by much but my intel based pc friends are slightly ahead of me in a few games at 1440p wouldn’t say it’s a bottleneck but defo some noticeable difference

When I pay off the £1000 left I have on this card I will see about getting a 5000 series perhaps. In the mean time I will try 3200hz by changing the timings, unstable on 16 18 18 18 36 1.35v. I have Ryzen DRAM calc to aid me.

People are right about the RAM - you will see a fair performance penalty below ~3000-3200MHz depending on the Ryzen CPU and a small but noticeable benefit up to around 3600MHz.

First thing you should do though is eliminate issues such as OS bloat i.e. make sure nothing is running in the background using a lot of CPU or IO resources, make sure temperatures are as they should be, etc.
