Hi everybody,

I have 4GB of RAM: Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX Dual Channel
And as seen in other threads I have the same issue when both modules are plugged: BSODs, random applications crash, failed checksums etc...

I have read that by updating the BIOS it could fix the problem. So I have installed the last and correct version of the BIOS (for PCB 1, I have 236-DA105-OJ1BF at the back of the MB). I have loaded the optimized default settings set the RAM timing to 5-5-5-18 (its defaults).

And I have tried to set the RAM voltage to its default to, which is 1.8v. But problem. In the Memory Voltage Setting menu you can only set 1.9v, 2.0v and 2.1v

Is that why, when I insert the 2nd module it's so unstable?

I have already tried them on another PC (with a different MB) and got no problem.

Also I have decided to test the RAM with Memtest86, I have placed only one module into the 1st slot (next to the CPU). I let it do 3 passes. At the end, no error.
Then I replaced it with the second module (at the same slot). As a result I got a long bip (15sec) at start and impossible to boot (long bip means RAM issue).
I have tried several times but nothing. I have tried to place it into the second slot but same problem.
I gave up and decided to put back the first module into the first slot. But same issue (15sec bip)!!!

Now I cannot even boot my PC. Help!! :(

Got an answer from Zotac support:
The Corsair XMS2 is not fully compatible with the GF9300 motherboard. The single module causing a POST Memory Error can cause a failure on the motherboard is operated constantly. The module are probably fully operational on other motherboards but not compatible with your PCB. I would recommend clearing the CMOS and trying another set of memory with a 1.9V or 2.0V.

Using the both module enables the Dual Channel controller. This is the reason why it wont POST in this state. Using a 200+ Watt Power Supply also improve the systems stability.
So basically I have to buy another brand :(
Any suggestions?

interesting, ive run XMS2 in my GF9300 based desktop temporarily and GF9300 based HTPC full time with no problems

i now run geil black dragon in my desktop (mainly as it was the only 2x 4GB kit around at the time) with no problems.

I think it depends on the MB version. If you have a version other than 9300 D-E PCB 0 or PCB 1 (1st version of the MB), it should be ok.
Otherwise you will have the same issues as me :(

Btw the guy from Zotac advised me to "try another set of memory with a 1.9V or 2.0V." but I've not found many DDR2 running with 1.9v or 2.0v by default. Most of the time it's 1.8v or 2.2v
And when you look at the compatible RAM list: http://www.zotac.com/pdbrochures/cpumemorylist/ZOTAC GeForce 9300 - ITX.txt
You find RAM which run at 1.8v by default (i.e. Kingston KVR667D2N5/2G, Kingston KVR800D2N6/2G, Kingston KVR800D2N6/4G ) ???
