Just built a SFF PC using this mobo together with a E5200. Just cannot get the bundled VIA wireless module to work correctly with Windows 7 7100. Installed (several times) the driver from the Zotac website. Seemed to work fine to start with for some reason but it's been getting worse and worse to the point that it doesn't work at all now. Help!

Thanks

Thanks, but tried that. They are the same drivers on the Zotac site and don't solve my problem. BTW, my laptop running W7 7100 has never had any issues - it is something to do with the hardware or drivers. Absolutely doing my head in!

The driver works fine, running that same motherboard on W7 7100 x64 with no issues with the wifi.

Have you checked to make sure the internal USB header hasn't come loose?

Could you describe what exactly is happening when the performance starts to deteriorate? The VT6656 has much lower sensitivity than the wireless cards on my laptops, but in my case is managing to maintain a reasonable connection.

Currently even after a reboot I cannot get it to connect. It detects the network fine (with very good signal strength), and after entering the network key (I have triple checked it is correct) windows just says it cannot connect to the network.

Maybe try taking the security off your router, and then connecting. I had a bit of trouble with WPA2, so had to go down to WEP. Sucks a bit.

Right, after both a PC and router reboot it has finally connected. Nothing else changed. I guarantee it won't last though. I know very little about networking. Does this likely indicate a driver or DHCP problem? Bear in mind never had any issue with laptop running identical OS using this router.

And WRT taking security off, yes this did help (seemed to always connect then) but using WEP I encounted the same issues as WPA and I'm not prepared to keep security turned off altogether!

Well, it was most likely a DHCP problem (on the router side) which might have gone away with the reboot of the router. Happens sometimes when you link a new system to a router. Has happened to me several times on a speedtouch 585v6.

Are you running the latest available firmware on your router?

As it happens the router is a 585v7 so I 'spose it might be that. We'll see I guess in the next few days. Thanks all for the help anyway.

Are you running the latest available firmware on your router?

Doubt it as never been updated, will look into that.

Still having problems with this. Every now and again the Zotac will just refuse to connect to my router. Only solution is PC and router reboot. As said previously, this is the only Windows 7 PC on my network to have wifi problems. Router also now has latest firmware. Any more thoughts?

Thanks

I still think that there is some DHCP issue on the router side. If you can assign a fixed IP address to the Zotac on the wireless network, this will most probably solve the problem.

I have had no connectivity problems to a 585v6 on my 9300 ITX with XP 32bit and Win 7 64 bit. I have WPA2 enabled on the router, and I allow only devices with known MAC addresses to connect (this is a bit of a pain to do on the 585v6, but I save the configuration, which is text file, edit it to add a new MAC address, then reload it and reboot the router).

Put the SFF PC on fixed IP, connected for now, will see if it stays that way. Here's another thing though - been trying out the router in 'registration only' mode, all my devices bar the Zotac work fine. I just cannot get the Zotac to register and connect. For info, this includes - i7 Win 7 x64 (ethernet), XPS M1530 Win 7 x64 (wifi), old school laptop Win XP (wifi), this Zotac and HTC smartphone (wifi obviously).

There is obviously some problem here. Hardware or software, I have no idea.

Sorry, cannot help with the 'registration mode' problem, as I am not using it on the 585v6. Tried to use it in the distant past, did not like the way it worked and started editing the configuration files (which is much the same as using the CLI). The web interface for the 585v6 is definitely flaky and it is sometimes very difficult to accomplish more complicated tasks.

problem is you have too many devices... you should give me some :D
Does it work if you use MAC filtering on your router? Not sure what registration only mode is.

By default the router will allow all new stations (assuming correct password obviously). Registration mode means you have to make the router scan for devices, then any which provide it with the correct password are allowed, but after than nothing new is allowed regardless of correct password or not.

i have exactly the same issue with windows 7. updated all driver but the zotac wireless adapter is flakey and when it does connect it is very very slow. Cant figure it out. Ive dealt with these many of times and i cannot see anything other than the adapator or some strange windows 7 compatablilty issue. Have 3 other wireless devices that are perfect.
