I very nearly bought the zotac Solid Core 5070ti after checking out reviews I thought it looked great for the price. I then realised I was looking at reviews for the solid and not the solid core.

Little bit of a ****** move by zotac naming the cards so similarly having them look almost the same but massively downgrade the cooler.

Anyone got the core version or seen reviews of them?
Think they use the same cooler on the 5080 too.

Hi there

A move by Zotac to try and make MSRP achievable.

The solid cooler is very expensive as it’s well engineered and thus performs well and is quiet, it’s also a large cooler.

The Solid Core cooler versions were introduced due to not enough margin or any margin when using the original better larger Solid cooler. The core cooler is smaller which may be an advantage to some but of course it does run a little louder and warmer but the advantage is it cost less and should result in MSRP product been more easily achievable and maybe even under MSRP.

Essentially everyone wants lower prices so Zotac have a solution but you cannot have one of best coolers and MSRP, simple case of you cannot have your cake and eat it. ;)

The solid was originally an MSRP card according to the reviews that's the bit that gets me.

Agree there's a place for the core version but all the reviews are for the normal solid so it would be very easy to think you were buying that and end up with the lesser card.

Since you're here Gibbo and have likely had hands on with both cards which has in your opinion the better cooler, the palit gaming or the zotac solid core?
Thanks

At least they gave it a new name, made it look different and are actually selling it for £729 though. Be different if they called it a ventus core made it look very similar, downgrades the cooler and still charged £800.

Zotac Solid is one of best coolers as I say Zotac made a boo-boo chucking such a high end cooler on their cards.

I think plan was to sell a limited number of regular Solid at MSRP or close to it as a loss leader which they did but of course the insane demand resulted in it sold out within minutes at launch.

With pressure on to get MSRP available continuous hence the Core versions of cards now available and it’s still an OK cooler just the Solid is an awesome cooler.

Just to point out that while it cools well, the Amp Extreme Infinity 5080 I have isn't particularly quiet, even with the "silent" BIOS. The minimum fan RPM is 1200+ RPM at 30% fan duty which seems high; under load it barely gets faster (perhaps 1400 at most) while keeping the core/memory in the mid 60's.

I only mention this as I'm not sure where that will leave the Solid. It's a minor grumble to be honest, in every other aspect it's a very good card, but compared to my last card that drew similar power it's notably louder.
