To be fair I'd argue he's right. You'd be better off getting a hard drive of the size you want, and 2gb of RAM yourself, provided you are confident fitting it. If you are happy to fit it yourself, I'd guess that you could save yourself £20-30 (although I haven't looked into SODIMM prices lately).

These are great. No need for a big hard drive if you're going to use it to receive a stream from another pc/server.

These are the future - one big hoffing monster of a server and lots of smaller clients dotted around the house.
 
I agree if you're planning on streaming there is no need for a large HDD but I have a 750GB HDD and some memory lying around doing nothing so I may as well save some ££. :)
