How good are they?
Thinking of getting the 'Zotac 8800GT 512MB' for under £100 brand new. Just wondering if its an ok brand and wont fail as soon as i plug it in etc.

Before you start saying ooo get the 4850, unfortunately, I'm not made of money, and I've recently purchased an e6300 and 2.1 speakers, so if this is an decent 8800gt then I will be happy to spend no more than £100 :)

Next question, my mum was just speaking to me about false economy. So i was wondering, i can get this card for ~£95 delivered. Would the extra performance of the 4850 be worth the extra £20-£40? well its about an extra £50 with vat+ p+p added!

Well the 4850 is as fast or slightly faster than a 9800GTX, never mind a 8800GT so it would be a mjor step upwards so get your mum to get you that one.

After all, it's not your money and she suggested it. ;)

It is my money :( So i'll ask the same question :p Worth the extra ~£50?

If you're on a tight budget you'd probably be better off saving the £45. Try overclocking the 8800GT as far as 700/1700/2000Mhz like the Zotac 8800GT AMP edition.

I couldn't see much difference between my factory overclocked Zotac 8800GT and the OC MSI 8800GTS 512MB I had before (which isn't too far off the 9800GTX).

performance per pound the 4850 is still worth the extra.

However, first day for 4850's and they will drop in price slightly. Ought to settle down to £117 for the cheapest.

Expect in a week or so time ocuk will have them for this price too when they have thier ocuk version cards.

Then you are only looking at £25 more which is then definitely worth it.

^ahh i see, its just i looked on ocuk, and they've obviously gone up to their original price. I think i'm most likely getting a 4850 though as soon as they've gone down in price.

I have had my Zotac 8800GT 512MB which is factory OCd since release and it's never let me down... will be changing it to a 4870 soon though :p
