Just a little confused at the settings between MSI afterburner and Zotec's FireStorm and basically would like to know what is the correct or general procedure people follow to overclock their graphics cards

uninstall firestorm... its awful

Just use MSI...

Downloads:

Unigine Heaven/Valley Benchmark software
GPU-Z
CoreTemp (for the cpu... always a good idea to keep an eye on them temps too)

What to do.

Leave at stock settings and run a unigine test in benchmark mode and record the results.

Bump the core clock and memory clock up by about 20mhz and run another benchmark... and what out for artifacts, screen tearing and other inconsistencies as this will be a sign of the gpu being unstable... always have gpu-z open as this will validate the overclock against MSI AB.

If the benchmark is fine and you see nothing to worry about i.e. artifacts etc then bump up another 20mhz and so on until you hit the cards limit.

Once you have hit the cards limit, run the benchmark one more time then leave the software in a loop (not under a benchmark test) for a couple of hours and keep an eye on the temps of your card and watch out for other inconsistencies.

if after a 2 or 3 hour stint, every seems fine, run some games and give her a test.
