Hello Everyone!

I've had a Zowie EC-1 for a couple of years now. Been having an intermittent problem which started after about a year of using where sometimes the mouse would double click instead of single click. I initially attempted to RMA the product through their website but I got no response. It's gotten pretty bad recently and I doubt I can pull up any of my receipts for it now so I was wondering if anybody had any recommendations on doing a home repair. Can this be done? I can't find any instructions on how to dismantle it and I'm too reluctant to do it without any in case i break it.

Thanks in advance.

James

I have made a guide on how to repair mouse switches. Specifically an omron switch but the procedure will be the same. I will post it soon.

EDIT: Looks like the Zowie uses a rebranded Huano switches. Not sure on the exact model as the rebranding seems to cover it but they seem to all be very similar. It looks like the exact same dimensions as the omron switch so you could desolder one and resolder another type.

It might be a bit over my head but I'm going to look at doing a self repair. I might as well wait until I can afford another sexy mouse so that at least if it goes wrong I've got another.

I would have expected to get more life out of a high end mouse like this though. I've got mouses which I've had for over a decade that are still running fine. This one started double clicking a year in.

I'd definitely recommend having a look at the guide I wrote here: How to fix most mouse clicking issues.

It's definitely a bit crap that a high end mouse can start double clicking after a year, however once you fix one once the problem is gone as it is so easy to repeat and the parts cost so little.

I did some more digging and it seems that you can swap brands of switches so if you wanted to jump to omron you can. Thread on OCN.

The general feedback is that the Huano switches used in the Zowie are a lot stiffer than the Omron switches, and that Omrons are the best. There are different types of Omron D2F switches you can choose from too. Discussion here.
