ZSteel soldiers won't run?

I am hoping someone can give me a solution to the following problem!

I have always been able to run Z Steel soldiers on XP in the past but I have just re installed this amazingly good RTS to find that it won't run now!
The profiler works fine so the engine is compatible with latest hatdware however when I try and start the game the CD just spins up and then nothing happens!
I have tried to run it on another machine with XP service pack 2 and the same thing happens!

any ideas what to try?

Yes its fully patched and I have tried compatabilty mode!

This may sound silly but is the cd scrathed or damaged in any way?

Doesn't sound silly at all!...the CD has got a few small scrathes on due to its age and amount of use!
I will order a new game (only £4.99) and try that as I can't see any other logical reason for it not working!

I had the same problem ijust gave up on it. I thought i read an article about Z not working on XP, but i could be wrong.

Z (the original) doesn't work on xp but you can get it going using dos box, I cant really think of any "logical" reason while steel soldiers wouldn't work if its on sp2 and fully patched, apart from a damaged disk.

Hope the new cd works
