Zune or iPod?

GPS? - It does have one :S An excellent one as well.
VOIP - It has Skype, or any other app you want.
Camera - fair enough
Video - fair enough
Battery - fair enough
Flickr - It can
Expansion - Meh 16GB Flash Memory

Media wise it's literally an iPod touch so that ranks pretty high up.

Internet lied to me. :( Does have any available Sat-Nav software then as that's what I love best about my N95. bloody helpful when ik need to deliver something for work, just bash in the postcode and away I go.

Not any free ones unfortunately. Best it has to offer by default is Google Maps and Google Earth (both compatibly with GPS and route overlays but not really sat-nav software)

Like many, I resisted ipods for a few years until Last December when I got a Classic.

Now I have a Touch, an iPhone and the Classic, I love it. I don't see why people hate it, the thing works brilliantly, battery last ages, UI is awesome, the screen is great and I can watch stuff, surf the net, check emails, play games and it all fit in my shirt pocket.

I have an iPod Touch 2G, ipod Nano 4G and the Sony NWZ-S639.
The Sony's sound quality is far superior to the iPods and it's half the price.
Why would I want a music player that sounds awful compared to something half its price?

To the OP, get a Zune.

rubbish Camera with no flash
no GPS
no expansion slot
no replacable battery
no MMS
no Video calling
no video capture
no support for voip
no flickr integration (I love this! :D)
Locked to O2

Think that about covers it for me.

You forgot no bluetooth file transfer support.

Doesn't seem to support TomTom or Garmin, use Garmin XT on the N95, anyway, apparently something about Apple liscensing or something preventing them from doing this? Seems very silly to me.

 :p

Custom iPhone UIs are always god-awful compared to the official one. Sorry ;p

Yes - Proper turn by turn software is forbidden. Might be because it would cane the battery, or something more nefarious. Lame all the same.

The only complaint I have about the iPhone is that the camera is dire quality and remained the same on the new model. No excuse on a premium phone.

I'm honestly delighted to see how many Zune owners there are on these forums! I thought I was the only one! I got mine a good couple of years ago now.

Anyway I haven't tried mine yet - its got the latest firmware on it so I suppose that means it'll be bricked.

No doubt Microsoft will come to the rescue with some new firmware :)

To be fair Im not keen on Ipods, I don't particularly like ITunes, and I've seen far too many fail. Even just recently the battery has failed on my brothers who wasn't harsh to it, and my foster brothers new Ipod nano froze up on him...2 days after getting it. Yes they may be flashy but other players were harder wearing and sounded better. My mates old IRiver was like the Juggernaut in comparison to most ipods!

The reason I bought a Walkman when I had the touch was because the battery life was pants.

I don't understand the ignorance some people have for the iPhone/Apple. Sure you can recommend what you already use and have, but to **** something off that is either untrue or based on not liking something just "because it's iTunes/Apple"?

As far as I know, the only features that are missing from the iPhone that are consistently available in competitors are: removable battery, bluetooth file transfer, expansion slot, front facing camera (although honestly speaking I personally do not know a single friend who even occasionally uses video calling).

Everything else may not be achievable out of the box, granted. But it is by jailbreaking and unlocking via other software means. I don't see what the problem is with that. Someone earlier in the thread said that the iPhone is all about 'gimmicks'. Have you ever used an iPhone? Btw I don't have an iPhone, and my sole Apple product is an iPod Touch 2G, so I hope I don't come across all fanboy-like or whatever.

As for iTunes, as I understand it, many people's one single criticism about it is the inability to drag and drop. As Nymins has already corrected in this thread, of course you can drag and drop, the only difference being instead of opening up Explorer to drag and drop, you open up iTunes. And then do exactly the same thing. iTunes is so easy to use, I can't understand why it draws so much criticism. What's not to like about it?

I am a very happy owner of an iPhone 3G (And the original before that). The only two things I miss are proper Bluetooth support and video recording. I've lost count of the amount of times someone has offered to send me a ringtone or asked for an MP3, and I've had to go ":(". There have also been several funny moments where I've gone "I wish I could record this."

I don't own a car, so I don't need turn by turn GPS. The last time someone sent me an MMS was about April time, and O2 sent me a nice linky so I could view it in Safari, so I don't miss MMS. The camera is adequate enough for my needs, and I'm struggling to fill my 8GB of space. Video calling is nothing but an expensive fad which I've never seen ANYONE use, and I can honestly say I've never thought "Damn, I wish this had a replaceable battery."

I bought it initially because the user interface stands far above anything else on the market, and I still stand by that. It is a joy to use. The only thing that comes close (In my opinion) is the T-Mobile G1, which had me considering taking out a second contract!

Back on the original topic however (Now that I'm done defending myself from the hordes of Apple hating sheep), I think the Zune is a wonderful device which surpasses any iPod Apple has made, except maybe the iPod touch, both in functionality and user interface. The only thing that let it down in the beginning was the Zune PC software which has now been drastically improved. I want a Zune myself so that I can mess around with making games for it in XNA. :D

It's definitely a weird bug that's floating around this morning, although I've noticed that people at Microsoft have started waking up as the support page has a note on it now saying their looking into it. I love what they're calling it, Y2K9. :p

Someone was talking about a site where you could get Zune's for the UK, as they are only sold in the US currently? Any more info on this as I've had a google and they look pretty cool :D

But why should you have to "technically" void your warranty to get what a lot of people would say is a major part of a phone? It's all very well saying you can jailbreak it but you shouldn't have to.

That's not drag and drop, that's no different to filling up an mp3 player using WMP. It still doesn't help if you want to use two or three computers regularly or download a file from a friends computer who doesn't have itunes. All other mp3 players (worth their salt) allow you to just connect straight up to your Windows or Mac PC. Sony used to force you to use their software as well, and I refused to buy a walkman then for just that reason, then they changed, and I got one.

Yeah i turned my zune on this morning and it was all fine all the music pics and videos still there was kinda hopin for a new one though as they look lush.

Basically a 24 hour glitch, a non event which certain apple fangirls on youtube jumped on. What a shocker.
