Zyxel 4G LTE-A Antenna Upgrade

Any (appropriate) external diversity antenna(e) will likely give you an improvement. Internal antenna(e) will likely yield little benefit.

I like the bare Iskra Yagi antennae. Yiu can get them with a wind/snow sheath but they work best in my opinion when they’re naked. They come in various lengths (32cm, 40cm, 58cm) with increasing gain as they get longer. They do benefit from exacting installation - so very precise alignment to the cell tower and very precise out-of-phase by 90-degrees alignment on the pole. Do be aware though, that the router/modem manufacturers know their products well and tend to do a decent job on the supplied antennae so if you are in a decent signal area you may see zero benefit but if you are in a weak signal area the improvement can be massive. Do consider spending the money and getting an installer in to recommend something known to work in your area. They well tell you not to waste your money.

I went down this road. Really, don't bother. An antenna is great for moving the reception point, but it generally won't improve your signal. This is because the losses in the cable are as much as the gains in the antenna. Really, you need to go to very seriously expensive antenna to show an improvement. You are far better just repositioning the modem/router. The only time you need buy an antenna is when the modem/router is in a car or caravan or something similar, where reception is abysmal.
My loft is full of antenna that never got used, lol.
