Interesting.

Don't use Argos much, but returned a hairdryer Mrs Cheesyboy decided she didn't want. It was still sealed with the original tape, but they opened it at the counter to check the contents before they would issue a return.

I was in a certain shop once and a customer infront of me was returning a suitcase that they'd apparently just brought, got it home and opened up and it was full of junk from the person who'd previously "rented" it to go on holiday.

I just had it the other way round due to making the mistake of selling my old gfx card through the rain forest site - never again. Buyer had it for a week when suspiciously the day after a certain graphics card was officially released the one I had sold them had 'arrived defective and damaged.' So I emailed them to get their rig's setup and offering to troubleshoot but they responded in filing a complaint directly with the tree consortium. I won the complaint so they decided to send the card back to me anyway without authorisation and with no protective packaging via Royal Mail and then filed another complaint directly with the trees. I took pictures as evidence that the buyer had deliberated destroyed the card, the tree related company's response: Refund him at least 50% or we'll take the money from your account and do it ourselves. So that was 100 quid down the drain. Not happy (understatement).

Lesson of the story; when someone claims to protect sellers as well as buyers, they're probably telling pork pies.

I was looking at AN EVGA Micro 2 board and found that it needed a bios update to take Broadwell E, I spoke to EVGA who said they would pop a bios chip with Broadwell E supporting bios on it if I bought the cpu.
Surely that's the best and probably cheapest way of getting round the original issue?

Amazons customer service is unreal. Last month my 11 month old kettle developed a slight leak. one email and a new one arrived the next day.

Issue with this is that people will take advantage of it and this topic is a clear indication of this. The more people that abuse it the more the likelihood it will be ruined for us all.

Yeah but testing a kettle for a small leak is a lot more time consuming so you can understand them not bothering, especially with kettles being cheap anyway. The trouble is people are sending back fake processors and (in my case) half the memory they were originally sold and Amazon aren't even realising. Not to mention they appear to be putting them back into normal stock so people like me and OP are receiving fake or incomplete products.

They should be able to track who originally bought the part and get the police involved. As long as it get reported every time. I have a fraud cases open atm for some memory i bought that never arrived, and a second one will probably be opened for a GPU i bought that didnt arrive. As soon as the fraud guys confirmed it was fraud they got the bank to transfer the money back from his account (well what was left of it) and closed his account down.

Well, they said on the phone that they would launch an investigation, but that's obviously the last I will hear of it. It depends how they label their stock (if). If they have a bin of Widgets in boxes, and get one returned, once it's checked and approved (in the loosest sense) it goes back into the bin. If someone returns a grometsprocket inplace of their widget in the same box, once it goes back into the bin how do they know which box is a return and which is brand new? and how do they know which return came from which person? there's no identifying amazon labels on my box.

Also, in other news, I got the replacement today, and I'm clearly not the first owner:

Note the open "security seal" and generally tatty box.

Fortunately it is the correct chip so as long as it's not DOA, it should work fine. And since I'm returning what is already a return, I think karma can call this one a wash :D

Probably from a previous customer who bought it but had no intention of keeping it past the 30 days...

I went from a cheap kettle to an expensive one, and it takes twice as long to boil now :(

I would prefer an ugly fast kettle than a slow pretty one.
