Survive The Forest

http://survivetheforest.com/

Looks like a combination of dayz, mincraft, 7 days to die. Except this time the engine looks ten times better than any of them. Will give dayz an exception because of the size of the map..

Here is what the developer has to say.

Quote:
The Forest is an open world survival horror game currently in development for PC.
Build, explore, survive in this terrifying first person survival horror simulator.

The world
Enter a living, breathing forest with changing weather patterns, plants that grow and die. Tides that roll in and out with the day/night cycle. Below ground explore a vast network of caves and underground lakes.

Complete player freedom
Chop down trees to build a camp, or start a fire to keep warm. Scavenge food to keep yourself from starving. Find and plant seeds to grow food.
Build a small shelter or a large ocean side fortress. decorate your home with found items. Lay traps and defenses to keep a safe perimeter.

Gameplay
Explore and build during the day. Defend your base at night. Craft weapons and tools.Bunker down during the evening or bring the fight directly to the enemy.

Fight or Hide
Use stealth to evade enemies, or engage them directly with crude weapons built from sticks and stones.

A new type of open world, survival horror experience
Defend yourself against a clan of genetic mutant enemies that have beliefs, families and morals and that appear almost human.

For PC and Oculus Rift - Alpha Version Coming Early 2014

Oooo I look forward to this! If that trailer displays true for the actual game then I'm on board.

Not 100% sure about fighting albinos though

This looks fantastic! I really hope it turns out as good as it looks, rather than ending up as a Far Cry horror adaptation.

Looks pretty damn awesome. Would be good with PvP or at least multiplayer as it would get Boeing fast on your own against ai

Plenty of pvp survival games out there. This should stick to PvE as long as the AI is decent

would expect it might be something like 7 days to die, with the relatively safe days gathering and building up a base to defend at night. Looks lovely tho

I like the look of the densely populated terrain. Sometimes I think areas like this can look a bit sparse, but imo they look to have got this just right.

No MP as such, ie on a dedicated server, although the devs are probably going to implement co-op, which to be honest with you is what I would prefer for this type of game.

Looks fantastic this, hope it lives up to expectations with them trailers. No multi-player is good if it allows them to make the experience better, I'll be happy with a coop mode though.

The graphics engine, wood chopping animation and building construction stuff looks very Rust like.

Just what I was thinking.

I was going to say Rust without as many half naked men, but looking at the second trailer, I may be wrong

I think it will be good for this game not to have PVP multiplayer, as it ultimately turns into a grief-fest. Co-op could be good, but may diminish the horror aspect of it (depending on if there are 'jump' scares etc).

Wish they would hurry up and let us have a buggy alpha version for 15 like all the other survival horror alphas.

3rd trailer is out:

Alpha coming out on 22nd May. Already set a reminder

For people that want more information there is a Q&A on the forums: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/f...2888934530799/ and some more information here: http://steamcommunity.com/workshop/f...2344025798890/

My thoughts:
- Graphics look pretty good. They are using "Screen-Space Sub Surface Scattering" for the skin and it looks very good

- Nice animations.

- Traps look good, but hopefully the ai will be smart enough to spot and avoid them some of the time.

- Crafting looks a bit simple. In that video it looks like 1 log is turned into a large part of a wall. Hopefully they bring out a "hardcore" mode with more realism, or maybe there wouldn't be enough trees?

- He used a lighter as a source of light in the caves. Is this unlimited? That'd ruin part of the horror if you always had a big light source. If it's not unlimited where does he get the fuel from, the plane wreckage?

- Fishing/cooking! I hope they expand upon this to other animals. Could you even cook the mutants you kill? omnomnom

- Bigger monsters. I'm not sure what to think about this, I quite like just having the "mutants" that really just looked like a tribe.

- What caused the mutant to explode towards the end of the video? The fire alone? Can you make other weapons/explosives?

Wow, I really like the look of this! Do we know if it is going to be multiplayer? And is there a estimated release date yet?

Alpha coming out on 22nd May.

Multiplayer mode may appear after Alpha release.

Hopefully they keep working on it, but it looks like it should still be good even in the alpha. It looks like much more work has gone into it than other early access games.
