Time to revisit this old topic. I ordered one from OC a while ago but the TV wouldn't power it whereas my old 2Tb mechanical drive works fine. OC argued I should have checked the spec beforehand yet I DID and power draw wasn't mentioned at all in their advert !!

Are there any USB-A POWERED 3Tb (or higher) external drives that use low power ?. TV socket claims a naff 1A max current. Not I'm not at all interested in those with an external power supply !

None of them will necessarily use low power these days as they all use usb3.0 that can obviously supply more. Even the older models often shipped with Y cables to use 2x usb ports for power...

5tb drives are more common, so might be worth researching any of these on Reddit etc to see if anyone has tried them in a usb2.0 port
