Whys your core clock speed fluctuating so heavily? Is that normal on one of these cards?

It depends how many screens he was using, what programs were running. For example, I run three screens on three GPUs. One sits at 500MHz, the other two at 250MHz. But when playing a video/youtube/Veetle, they jump between 250MHz and 880MHz (top end).

Heaven benchmark, stock clocks on the left, 1ghz overclock on core on the right.

Max temps are 78c according to MSI AfterBurner :) Very good considering my case (Lian Li V354B) has a crap airflow around the GPU with a sound card directly under it.

EDIT: Just realised the GPU-Z screenshot says PCI-E 1.1. That's normal on idle. When on load it jumps back to 2.0.

What temperatures is everyone seeing on their cards and with which coolers?

I'm quite impressed with the Powercolour PCS+ cooler, max temperature i've seen out of it is 65/66C with the furmark burn in test running and at that temp it's only a 50% fan speed.

I've been tempted by the Powercolour too but I'd like to know how much louder/quieter they are to reference design, moreso the triple 80mm-fan Gigabyte WindForce OC. They've attained the high clocks with good sound levels, essential for 2/3 GPU [source]

The 7950 range is far more impressive with non-reference coolers compared to the 7970 range which seems to have only the XFX Double DD B.E. More on the 7970 DD cooling in this review where idle stock clocks are 9c lower than Sapphires. I thought all 7970s exhausted hot air out the case (reference designs do) but this one circulates it in the case! As appealing as some of those temps/noise-levels may be, your paying £170 more for a single XFX DD 7970 (£1120 CF total) compared to the XFX DD 7950 (£780 CF total). The £340 difference would just about get you another 7950 :D

I've just been comparing my xfire 5850 set up with the results that Gibbo posted and looking at them, I can only see the extra VRAM being worth the swap atm.

Is anyone here with a 7950 (and unlocked bios with high clocks) able to do some Unigine runs with higher settings, like 8xAA and 16xAF, to see how much the 7950 might pull away?

Edit; here's my results from 16xAF and 8xAA

7959 PCS+ is impressive.

Default voltage was quite low at 1031mv and Heaven crashed when I started to increase the clocks.
Used 1093mv and tried 1000/1400 which was fine seeing 61 degrees C @ 41% fan speed (room temperature is not exactly hot though).

Those 92mm fans do a good job.

Will see what more it can do when I have more time as I had to fit in a little bit of BF3 for test purposes (that's what I told wifey anyway).

does anyone have pics of a non-OC (i.e cheaper) 7950 PCB with the cooler removed? I wanna send pics to EK for them to validate a block

Something quite wrong with your 580GTX overclock if thats what it gets at its max seen as my single GPU bench at stock is 1360~ lol.

I think what's being queried is that is your score at 1920x1080 with 4xAA or perhaps at 1680x1050 with 4xAA as per the Heaven benchmark thread?

I managed to get mine 1125/1500 at 1150mv.
I'm liking the card a lot.
