you'll get plenty of flying debris from any explosion without it needing to be a ball bearing laced bomb

No doubt, looked to go off in a crowded area. If the explosion was of significant power we'd have many more reported deaths. Them police officers right next to the explosion barely flinched. Regardless still horrific of course.

looks like a high ms generating explosive i.e. cutting which may favour the surviours as there less likely to carry shrapnel efficently. also allows easier tracking of source.

but this is all speculative, it didnt look like the standard anfo based explosion which cause huge amounts of shrapnel

It looked like a pretty crap bomb tbh. From the yellow flame and lots of smoke probably black powder or smokeless powder, i.e. a big pipe bomb.

it doesnt have to look powerful, if reports about ball bearings are true a small explosion with these could have devastating results.

What can i say , very sad...and in a marathon too which is supposed to bring people together
