Very much the exception. Plenty of grad schemes in the City of London starting at £20k and less, let alone oop norf

Dont think I've ever been in a company that paid much more than 5 seconds on what Uni degree you did (I'm taking about infratructure companies building networks and servers here)
If you have Cisco or MS / Unix quals then you jump straight to the group at the front of the pile in most cases. Unless of course the job is a bit generic then it may come into play or on grad based scheme
