but you need to go all the way to court to find this out, and risk a harsher penalty for doing so.

And you are missing mine: you are NOT risking a harsher penalty - you already agreed that you understood when I pointed out that the penalty imposed by the court is the correct one! What you are forgoing is, and only is, mitigation for an early plea. And since you are no pleading early, why should you get an early plea sentence mitigation? The court is not punishing you more for fighting, it punishes you less if you plead guilty. The difference is important.
