If you have a slightly more obscure surname it's pretty easy to find people. I'm not old enough to be listed anywhere other than my own sites but Jordan is a pretty rare name, seemingly only me and one american share it.

All winners of over £250,000 are offered advice and support from independent experts. This helps them deal with concerns like how to get independent financial and legal advice, practical advice on lifestyle changes, and press and PR support if they decide to go public.

What this means is that PriceWaterhouseCoopers, who regulate the lottery, charges the winners **** off rates to sit down with one of their 'experts' who will advise them to invest in whichever company gives them the most business.

It's not the begging letters that would bother me, it's the fact you'd be constantly worried someone is gonna kidnap your family. As already pointed out, it's not difficult to find someone if you know a few details and have the time to put into it. Electoral rolls, phone book, etc... can all be used to narrow down searches.

There's a reason why rich A-list celebs have body guards, and it's not just because of the crackpots that fantasise about being close to them. The minor celebrities (I'm looking at you Jade Goody, Jordan & Peter André, etc...) don't need such protection they just have it to make themselves look important.

Also I think that if you suddenly become extremely wealthy you become very suspicious and would eventually only socialise with other similarly wealthy people, because you know they're not with you for the wrong reasons.

I wouldn't want anybody knowing I won that much, I would just tell friends I won some money on the lottery but I think they would become suspicious when a Veyron is on the drive :D

tbh she told everyone at work, so no doubt someone at her work got in touch with the papers.

I remember a few years ago when I used to print the Sun.
They always used to have an advert in stating "Call this number if you know who the lottery winner is" and they would offer a cash reward for people.

So, you ask for anonimity, all of a sudden someone blabs to the Scum and thats it. You are all over the papers and TV like a rash. Is there anything you could do legally about this??

She is the talk of the town here, she only lives about 3 miles from my house. Her mugshot is in every local rag you can think off, as well as the Nationals. I already feel sorry for her and her boy. I reckon there will be plenty of begging letters heading her way :(

Irrespective of whether I won the lottery or not I would rather stay anonymous in life. Public lifestyles don't really appeal to me and I like doing what I want whereever I want.

If I won the lottery I would have course therefore stay hidden. I would tell my family but that's about it.

Some guy won a big amount in our City (and made approx £25,000) extra by going public (due to interviews, mags, TV etc)

He was hounded out though, due to scumbags calling at his door (mostly gypsies, paramilitaries and general chavs - who all thought were old frineds etc) His kids were threatened, his parents threatened and he was supposed to have received dozens of letters every day asking for money (with even more threats, curses and sick pictures sent to him - from as far affield as Bulgaria and Africa)

Its suprising how many people go green with envy too, just because he won a bit and bought a fancy car.....very few people were actually pleased for him, and most would call him the usual names just because he had won the money and they hadn't.

He has moved to some other country as far as I can remember.

When I couldn't count on more than two hands the amount of people with my Surname in this country, I would certainly remain anonymous with especially being the only one with my forename too!

no matter what you do winning this amount of money will change your life dramatically, most lottery millionaires have crumbled at the sight of all the money squandered it and they are left with not much else. so who you tell wont really make too much difference.

no matter who you tell word will get out, a member of the family will usher it to someone. someone will notice your lifestyle etc.
personally i would live comfortably, share it amongst family and close friends and ignore all other requests. as soon as people win the money, people take themselves out of work immediately, then what do they do for the rest of their life? days sat infront of a tv, in a massive house all by yourself... to me that would be boring.

Hmmm 35 million...could probably buy half of east kilbride with that :p

I think it will be hard for her as its a big shock going from single mum staying in a flat to having £35million!

I know what i would do with it for sure!

I wouldnt go public as in get my grinning in the paper holding my ticket/mahoosive check/champers etc

I wouldnt fancy idiots from school whos your friendship went barely past saying hello to in the corridor turning up on my door claiming long lost friendship and looking for a free ride. but i would tell my family/close friends

I would then leave the country for a good 6 months to a year till i became 'old news'

Aghhh I read her story and I was gutted... "I had my nails done it was lovely, now I want to get a nice dress. Me son also wants a PS3 and an Xbox". She has no clue what to do with that amount of money, she could have won 4 million and still been as happy. It's not fair... *sobs* :(

For the record I wouldn't go public, and would just tell friends and close family. I don't have any "hanger on" friends in my life so wouldn't worry about golddiggers. And any women would never know my bank balance, just know that I "had money".

I'm just depressing myself thinking about it...

I would remain anonymous ... or at least try too.

They wouldn't do very well at work though as, assuming I won a decent amount, a few of my friends there would get a few quid (and most of them would probably quit straight away (in some cases if i gave them £20 they'd probably leave :) )).

I have my list of people who would get some cash off me due to being people I've known for quite a while, (and in some cases they have helped me through bad times) .... now I just need a nice big lotto win to go with it :(

I wouldn't mind going public. I wouldn't be staying in this country long if I had 35 million anyway ;)
