Maybe there's some other setting in the bios relating to the PCI-E slot, maybe it's disabled by default. Btw you have definitely connected the 6 pin connector on the top right of the X1800 XT using the supplied lead to a PSU molex connector? Also check the board is fully seated in the PCI-E slot.

Is the video card fan spinning?

yes, i've attached the 6pin using the supplied cable and i've also used one fro mthe PSU directly (as PSU is SLi compatable). Also the fan does spin when turned on, a loud bugger it is.

I've asked for a refund....seeing as others have had problems I'm not chancing another one...I must be unlucky this week as I've got an Asrock DualSata MB as well and it won't run any DDR400 RAM without BSOD'ing! Shame really seeing as it would've been a nice upgrade and I'm now defaulted to a 9600XT AGP :( I don't know what to do now...only wanted to spend £150-£175 on good GFX card till DirectX 10

well i phoned OCuK and they said that the 1800XT's problem is in my PSU and that they recommended that i get one from ati's list. so i've RMA'd the 500w and gone 600w, we'll see how it goes....

It's a problem with the motherboard/BIOS/CMOS or something, but I don't know what.

When I got a PCI 9200SE to temporarily replace my PCI-E X1800XT, my PC would not boot with the 9200SE in at all. With just the 9200SE in, the PC would not POST and the monitor would just stay on standby, and with both the 9200SE and X1800XT in the same thing would happen but the X1800XT fan would spin up to 100% and stay there.

I never managed to sort it out, I tried a huge amount of things. The 9200SE worked in another PC just fine, but not in mine at all and my X1800XT, even though borked, still booted on its own.

Whaaaaat? A 500w seasonic is fine with an X1800XT. Unless the PSU is broken in some way. OcUK themselves sell pre-built rigs with an antec 380w psu and they have X1800XT's in.

Well I had an Enermax 500W Liberty....surely that would've been enough! its dual 12v rails are 22A each.... anyone got an X1800XT running on a Liberty?
More than enough. My Akasa 460w has 15A+16A 12V rails I think.

Mates used the stock 420W PSU from the Qpack case, ran fine apart from the noise, and is now using a Seasonic 430W. Your PSU is fine, I would look into another cause for the problem.

I've got exactly the same problem. On my system the fan stays in "hair dryer" mode.

I've had this problem too, although it doesn't do it all the time. Other times I'll get a blue screen error just before the XP loading screen. It does boot to Windows eventually - I just have to keep trying. Once I finally get into Windows everything is fine. Weird thing is its only just started doing it these last few days.

I'm running an X1800XT on a 485w Enermax noisetaker so that definatley shouldnt be a problem
