Due to a past incident I basically burnt out my 24pin connection on my psu

To fix this all I think I need to do is cut the wires upstream of the melted wires and put new pins in
Followed by a new ATX plug

Is this a futile task? The parts look cheap but I don't know if I need any special tools particularly to clamp pins to the wire

Parts are cheap however you will need a 18-30 AWG crimping tool. They will set you back £20+

Simple job however. You can get a pack of crimps for a few quid.

Ah that's an issue.
It's probably not worth the cost of that tool to fix.

I am pretty sure it's not damaged as it stopped running the system due to contacts not connecting

You don't need a professional crimping tool to replace a couple of pins. A set of precision pliers and some patience (and possibly a soldering iron) will do the job.

There's also the option of buying a 24 pin ATX extension cable and doing a 'cut and shut'.
