I think the 8800 GTX was more important. It was so good they rehashed variants of it about 10 times.
Problem is it pre-dates gamersnexus.
My first self built pc had the BFG overclocked version of this card and it was sooo good at the time. Absolute beast. Paired with a core2duoI think the 8800 GTX was more important. It was so good they rehashed variants of it about 10 times.
Problem is it pre-dates gamersnexus.

The 4090 would have been legendary but nobody could afford one to find out
Its the price, the 1080ti was cheap, the 4090 isnt
It was a good card but I wonder how long it stayed relevant for?
Nah, not even close, as said the 8800gtx was a better contender for that throne.
What makes you say that? Is it value, performance or something else? I never owned it, I was broke back then and only had a 6600gt. When I look at benchmarks, on average both the 1080ti and 8800gtx are double the performance of the cards they replaced so I'm unsure why some people say the 8800gtx is better
1080 ti was not double the 980 ti. 980 ti = 1070
The 1080 was also the card released initially (with 1080 ti coming quite a bit after), and that was not double the 980 either.
For both we are talking more like 50-60%.
The 8800 gtx was 130% better than the 7800 gtx.
Not sure what resolution, I was checking an old tpu review showing average gaming performance of the 980ti being 51% of the 1080ti, so just about double
$700 is NOT cheapIts the price, the 1080ti was cheap, the 4090 isnt
980TI Came so close to Titan performance at pretty much half the price
