my c2d E6600 at stock 2.4GHz with prime95 makes north bridge go up to 50C and i have a 40mm fan on top of the NB heatsink. I want to overclock my E6600 to 3GHz but i am afraid that i will burn the northbridge

Yup, still got mine, purchased in march 2007 with an E6300, changed late 2009 (i think) to an E8400 and still using that, although contemplating a new mobo/cpu for when The Old Republic comes out :D

Well my old P5N-E SLI has died. My brother reports that the machine switched itself off and would not power up again. No horrible smells to indicate it may have been the power supply. He took it up to the computer shop he uses, and the capacitors on the motherboard had burnt out. So we got almost 5 yrs out of the board, and that was 5 yrs of 24/7 use with all 4 cores fully loaded most of the time. Not too bad for a £75 motherboard

He now has a replacement Asus P5G41T-MLX complete with new DDR 3 memory and is good to go again ! I hadn't realised there were socket 775 mobos with DDR3 memory. Good that he has new memory as well, a new lease of life for that box.
