Then people wouldnt buy their 20 series 
They may have used all the chips for the 1080 Ti.
It may be a case of pairing up GDDR5X with whatever chips they have left.

Interesting. Mostly interesting because it shows they have a glut of some of the 10 gen chips.
I'm still thinking of my next upgrade being a second 1070 Ti to SLI, just waiting for a little more price drop...
(Yeah I know received wisdom is that SLI is no longer worth it, but it seems to give good results in some games, just not in others)
