The days of using 3rd party anti virus are numbered, near enough gone. The AV built into Windows is good enough and it's not a system hog.

At work I'm removing all 3rd party AV's from all laptops and running Windows Defender for Cloud. No problems so far.

One thing I really hate about the built in Windows anti-virus is it keeps nagging you about enabling automatic sample submission even when you tell it you want that off - that is very bad behaviour.

Windows 11 built in one, its done the job perfectly fine since Windows 8/10 imo.

If you feel not confident scan with free malware bytes and you will see nothing else detected usually.

As with anything common sense 1st

How is MS Defender for Cloud a replacement for device AV protection?

Do you mean Defender for Endpoint, which manages the built-in AV?
My point was we have no need to use 3rd party AV's anymore in a corporate environment.

I'm sure you knew what I meant :)

Im just using Windows 11 MS Defender now, ive used pretty much all other AVs over the years, ive never had any problems so far, of course paid AV does offer far more customization and utilities
