amongst other things, my puma needs new suspension bushes.... is it actually worth going for those polybushes, or will I not notice anything bar slightly less wear? and I guess the other question is, am I more likely to need polybushes if I change the suspension for lower harder suspension?

Cheers in advance

The polybushes I've fitted always seem easier to fit than the OEM type, they usually come in two halves.

The Golf feels much "tighter" with polybushes fitted. I didnt notice any increase in noise but it's not exactly refined to start with!

I've also fitted some to the Mondeo's rear beam and didnt notice any difference TBH.

That doesn't help at all does it!

Polybushes are just as tight (if not a tiny little bit tighter) than standard OEM bushes.

The big difference between the two being that polybushes won't degrade and crack like rubber. I recently removed my front tie-bar bushes and they were all cracked and very very soft! Won't have to worry about polybushes ending up in the same way for a long long time.

One other thing is cost... to me, polybushes don't seem much more expensive than the OEM stuff.

If they are anything like changing them on the MK5 Fiesta Zetec-S (I assume it will be, being the same basic chassis), then it does wonders for the handling. Having driven a ZS without the poly's and one with, the one with was a lot "tighter", had more feedback, and less play.

How old were the original bushes though el. I have driven a poly bushed vts and it didn't feel any different to mine really. Hence why I'm currently tracking down all group A style hardcore metal bushes :D

On the one I drove, the OEM bushes were recently replaced (less than 12-months). They aren't particularly "tight" as standard.

ive fitted them everywhere on my golf. initially they made the ride unbelievably harsh, but this does settle down after a few day.

its worth it for the front wishbone bushes alone. in short, steering inputs are translated into movements much more directly. the car feels more direct and responsive... which if you want a car to thrash the life out of and have fun in, is a must.

if you just want a normal car, get normal bushes

Whether or not you fit uprated ones you will notice a difference. Bushes wearing make such a difference to a car, ever fitted a pair of new wishbones to pass after an MOT failure? Feels like a completely new front end.

Generally I find Poly bushes easier to fit, and often cheaper than OE type replacements.

How do you get the old wishbone bushes out Lopez? I intend on using a blowtorch for the rubber and hacksaw the little metal colar out

drill a load of holes through the rubber, force that out.

get a hacksaw blade, cut through the sleeve in about 3-4 places, chisel it out.

easy

Like Matt82 says - either burn them out with a blowtorch, or drill enough holes in them to weaken the rubber and then knock out any metal sleeve you can. It's the sleeve that's usually the bigger problem, disassemble a hacksaw so the blade is "inside" the bush and cut some notches in it then bash it out with a chisel.

Not all bushes are metal sleeved though.
