What animals would you brake for?

Tonight I was driving my parents car down our driveway at about 40mph when I saw an owl sitting by the side of tarmac. As soon as I saw it took off right into the path of the car! I really slammed on the anchors and I think it JUST missed the windscreen. Had it been a rabbit, pheasant or a fox I would never have bothered but for some reason I find owls really quite special. It was our drive so there was definitely nothing behind!

Any if I don't think they're going to get away in time (although they probably would anyway). None if there's some joker tailgating me.

Edit: I want a driveway I can do 40mph on :(

i was driving at about 60-65mph in south Africa when this ran out in front of the car.

Needless to say I braked and swerved to avoid it!!

Badgers are right ****'s, they can really make a mess of your motor.

my mate discovered this the other day when one ran out in front of him and has destroyed passenger side front bumper/fog etc. just as he is coming up to sell it.

any animal i brake for, especially where i live as theyre everywhere... i hate people that see one (e.g. rabbit) and delibarately try and hit it.

whenever im driving on countryside roads when i expect animals to be near/on the road (usually at night) i generally are more aware, drive slower and honk my horn now and then to let the surrounding wildlife know im coming lol...

like the other day, a barn owl was in the middle of the road just staring at me in my car, i stopped to get a better look... it was just starring at us and we were starring back lol! very eerie experience, eventually after about a minute it flew away. beautiful creatures tbh.

I'll try and avoid killing anything bigger than a rabbit (including the humble bunny), wouldnt bother trying to avoid a mouse etc :P. But only if its safe. If its a choice between an animal, and hitting another car, then the animal has to take its chances.

Have had to avoid Deer in the Forest of Dean once, and sheep all the time. Doesnt take much to know your driving in an area with increased chances of animals on the road, and adjusting your driving accordingly.

Anything that would damage my car, if it's safe to do so.

Agreed. Having said that if, say a rabbit, jumps out infront of me and theres noting around I'll brake to try and and avoid it. I wouldnt just flatten it for the sake of it.

When out on the test drive of my car a Fox ran out. Damn that thing stops well considering its on standard brakes :p

il try to avoid everything. pigeons have a trend to fly out just as you accelerate and a lot of the time its not avoidable.

on a random note, last year when my mate got his crx, the first day he had it he had a deer run into the side of it lol. Luckily it didnt damage his car

Brake = all. how hard depends on conditions and traffic around me.

Swerve = nothing, well maybe if a horse was about to kick my windscreen.

Deer = speed up, phone mate up and get some venison.
