im pretty sure its not all sea battles, it just has new 3d sea battles instead of the auto-resolve thats on M2:TW.

Yep theres definetley still land battles too, it's just that they are making sure that they pimp the new sea battles. :p

I really hope that CA have sorted out the problem with the shadows not being shown on trees etc on the battlefield, as playing MTWII is great using the 8800 GTS but alas no shadows with that range of cards :(

Every driver release from NVidia hasn't helped and yet when playing the demo the shadows are, apparently, there...!!!!

I'm more worried about campaign and battle AI being improved to be honest :) Still, as much as I'm a fan of the series, I can't see myself getting Empire TW. Just not a fan of the time frame. Would have much preferred a return to Asia, but never mind, eh?

Finally sea battles one feauture I have been waiting for but personally would have preferred the Rome/Greek timeframe. Still definitely going to get this, currently playing both Rome and Medieval 2.

28th in the US, 31st over here or so said my Total War Newsletter last night. Empire should be good - Sharpe and Hornblower :p. All the info on it that's been released is about the sea battles but that's fair enough, it's a pretty big new feature.

I hope to god they put multiplayer campaign into Empire Total War. Been playing the total war games since Shogun, and every time they bring one out I think what an awesome multiplayer campaign game it would make, particularly as a LAN Co-op game (which incidently there arent enough of in all genres anyway)

Sadly though, I doubt it will have it :(

A game with empire setting from the makers of Total War series? My dream finally came true! I would definitely be disappointed if there were no sea battles in that timeline.

You would definatly need a time limit if you were to do that:p

I agree this would be awesome, you and a friend over a LAN working together against the computer would be great fun but not sure how they would implement it. You could use a timelimit like Zip said but how would they manage it for when you personally controlled a battle?

I actually wouldnt need a time limit, we having been playing LAN at my house on my network for many many years. We adore games which take absolutely months to play, stuff like the old Heroes of Might and Magic games, Age of Wonders, Civilization etc.

I can see how some would want a time limit though. With time limit or without time limit, I dont care..I just want multiplayer campaign to at least be an option. Goodness knows, some folks have been calling for it since Shogun Total War and they still havent implemented it (although there is a mod which allows the campaign on medieval 2 to be played multiplayer by hotseat :) ) , surely if some modder can do that, then a games company with all of its resources (both technical and financial) can find a way to do it. IF , they can be bothered

My copy of kingdoms arrived today so far im really impressed:)

I decided to start off with the Americas campaign and im playing as the "new spain". Im on turn 32 and so far ive made alliances with 3 tribes but one made me turn against them by attacking a very powerful ally. In the mean time ive nearly destroyed the Mians only like 2 provinces left, maybe a third if they take this rebel base there besieging at the moment. Then after there gone all i have to do then is take on the very powerful Aztec, luckily though my ally friends have taken there capital and killed there faction leader.
Also about 5 turns ago foreigners have heard about this new land of riches. So ive just had a huge fleet of "new french" arrive on my boarders, im unclear of there intentions towards me at the moment, friend or foe?

Loving it so far i should finish it tomorrow then im gonna have a go at either the aztecs or apaches. And i still then have to do the other 4 campaigns:)

Similar progress in my Spanish campaign, though I'm allied with the Aztecs, Mayans are down to 3 settlements, I've nearly captured everywhere east of the starting mainland settlement and I'm working through North America. Been playing Stainless Steel before this and the speed of Kingdoms is much faster (on the battle map) and having gone down to M/M difficulty it's a bit easy.

I'll probably try one of the Crusader states next.

Britannia for me next when i finish the americas:D

I've just read this months PC Gamer (the first I've bought for more than a year ), and Empire: Total War sounds magnificent... The time frame sounds like a lot of fun as I'm a big fan of the Hornblower and Sharpe novels.

Trouble is, in my eyes CA's recent form has been rather iffy, with Rome an utter disappointment and Medieval 2 was just 'meh of the same'...

I will wait for release, but won't get excited.

 Never thought I would read those words. I guess there is a sameness beginning to affect the series, but Rome has to be one of the best of the genre. Fantastic graphics, battle gameplay and campaign, and once completed a few time, there is the Total Reality mod to go through...

Anyway, real point of this post. Now that some of you have had Kingdoms a couple of weeks. How is it standing the test of time?

I can see your point there as the Rome series was totally different to MTW1, i was shocked and hated it for the first two months, played HL2 instead and came back to it only when bored.

Then WOWOWOWOWOW it hit me like a steak between the eye, I couldn’t believe the depth involved in some of the mods e.g. total realism. These mods are what have made this game into my top 5 games of all time.

MTW2 was more of the same to be honest, didn’t take long to win my first campaign as the English on hard/hard. But try a Scottish campaign on vhard/vhard playing every battle and then you get to see some of joy that can be obtained from this game. Then put the mods in and the arrival of total realism in January and we are in for a treat. The expansion is awesome though still to finish my first campaign with Norway.

This new one involves a new engine and new way of thinking in the game, i wouldn’t be surprised if I’m a little disappointed in the game then a few months later it will hit me hehe.
