Bit confused to be honest.

I know it comes with the one standard controller...but for various games what extra controller/s should I buy him too?

Money IS an issue please bear in mind. ;)

Thanks for help. :)

for example for wii sports

1 mote - you can play 1-4 players bowling,golf,
2 motes - tennis, baseball 2 players
2 motes + 2 nunchucks you can play 2 player boxing

other games depends on controls system

I picked up wii play ( you get wiimote free with it) and a extra nuchuck set you back around £40 online

Agree with all the above. We got Wii Play plus Wii sports so have 2 controllers and 1 numchuck. Great family games. Having played over the summer (kids more than me) would be more likely to invest in 2 more remotes than a second numchuck as would prefer 4 player tennis to 2 player boxing.

Not sure what your understanding of the "standard controller" is, so apologies if this is repeating what you already know.

The Wii comes with one Wii Remote (or Wiimote for short) and one Nunchuk, as per photo below.

As already mentioned, for Wii Sports the Wii Controller (the one on the right in the photo) is more important than the nunchuk, as you'll only need the nunchuk for the boxing game.

If you're gonna be playing a lot of Wii Sports (which everyone does to start with :)) then think about getting sufficient Wiimotes rather than worrying about getting the Nunchuks too. If it came down to it, I'd get 2 Wiimotes over 1 Wiimote & 1 Nunchuk.

Prices for the Wiimotes alone are about £25. However, for £30 you can buy Wii Play which is a collection of fairly average mini games but it comes with a "free" Wiimote... so the actual game only costs you a fiver (which is probably all it's worth, tbh).

The Nunchuk, I believe, is about £15ish... can't really remember.

However, if you're planning on playing other multiplater games, e.g. Rayman Raving Rabbids, then you'll need a Nunchuk as some of the minigames require it. So, if you're getting any other games straight away, have a look at the back of the case to see what controllers it uses.

Hope that helps :)

My personal choice would be (and was):

Wii Play (inc. Remote), which your kids will probably really enjoy for a while
1x Nunchuck

That'd cost you £45 ish. It means you can play 2 player boxing on Wii Sports, and if you pick up games like Mario Strikers and Rayman Raving Rabbids (which I'm sure your kid would love) later down the line, you're ready for 2 player as these need both the Wiimote and nunchuck.

I still only have 2 Wiimotes; a lot of 2+ player games you can simply pass the Wiimote on (like bowling - it's easy to play 4 player with 2 remotes as 2 of you share).

was the route my wii went down. an old gamecube controller might be handy as well if you can get one cheap.

It's well worth getting a complete second controller (nunchuck and remote).

I think so, more so than having 3 Wiimotes and only 1 nunchuck.

I've added 2 classic controllers to my setup (and I already have 4 Gamecube pads). They've been worth it purely for 2 player Super Probotector and SFII with my bro. But you may not be bothered about VC games (or more likely your kid won't be :) ).

A pair of GC pads/wavebirds are vital as there's such a big range of fantastic GC games out there!
