Hi all! Looking at the calender, I've got a lot of family parties which i'm organising between now and Christmas. A lot of the parties that i've help organise are bring your own drink but I wanted to be a bit different and have beer on tap...

I've asked my local pub and they are willing to supply me with beer kegs - size = 22 (if that means anything to anybody?!?)

What equipment do I need to safely pour the beer out of this keg? I've had a look around and I think I need something like this:

Any ideas anybody?

Yeps 22 means 22 gallons, hope you're strong because they weigh a lot. An 11 gallon would be easier to manage and also wouldn't take out half the walls in your house when moving it around :D

Lol - Just rang up and they can sell me 11 gallons instead if I wanted. Still none the wiser about the equipment though.

We had this exact dilemna for our flat party.

In the end my American flatmate got the pump from the US - http://www.beveragefactory.com/draftbeer/keg-pumps/lever-europeansankey.shtml but I am sure you can get them to ship it over. It's a lot cheaper and you won't need to return anything! They work really well, you don't need the carbon pressure you just have to keep pumping the tap to keep the beer flowing. (You get about 4 pints in between each pumping session)

EDIT - I am almost certain we had a 16 gallon keg.

We just went down to Bookers to buy our kegs.

You will also want to have a look at the type of connector the keg has on it because you will need the matching connector on your pump line. There are about 3 different connector types I've seen.

Cheers for the link - I've just had a look at that website and it looks good tbh- the only thing that puts me off is the fact there isn't a cooler (there's nothing worse than warm beer!)

Well if the OP's doors are standard size good luck rolling a 22 through them :p

You roll up to the door, put on end, push through door upright, then topple it over.

Trust me i've done it plently of times, its easy.

Well I just know I wouldn't be doing it in my house, too much risk of damaging the walls/floors/doors. Easier to just get a few 11 gallon kegs and carry them through to the bar area.

Surely getting toward Christmas you can leave it either outside or in the cellar (if you have one)?

It's only a problem if you start to throw it around as you do in a pub, also 2 people can lift an 22 quite easily.

what are you doing chiller wise?

you need to keep the beer cool if it isnt cold enough it will come out pure froth :)

i used to work in a bar and one of my friends who worked there now has his own mobile bar business so if i see him out tonite i can ask him

That would be great mate - i've looked at the kit I think I need but I don't really want to spend over £500 tbh!

You need to go to Asda, get yourself one of their 'fun buckets' for a fiver, fill the edges with ice. Job done. My flatmate swears that if you add salt to the ice that it will keep cooler for longer, but really it keeps the beer VERY cool. It is under a lot of pressure in there so it will expand as it comes out which causes a lot of cooling in itself. Lager isn't kept in a fridge at a pub but it just comes out cool due to the clever pressure differences!

And the fact that the pipes run through coolers in the celler and some in cases super coolers (2 coolers) for extra cold beer.
