Bioshock DX9 vs DX10 benchmarks

PS2 has it's disadvantages to USB mouse connection though, PS2 tops out at about 2000DPI, USB can do more. But USB is more CPU intensive than PS2 (you won't notice the difference on powerful CPU's).

You can always up the sample rate on PS2 as well, if you wanted to.

Logitech MX 1000 laser is not that DPI so dont matter, and unlike USB, PS2 is 1st to work at boot up and last to fail when PC's freeze up.

USB is also crappy for internet, most will swap to NIC+Ethernet, I dread the day Logitech force me to use USB.

I did mention sample rate above, default is 100, I set to 200, but where in Vista64 ?.

It's in device manager isn't it?

Right click your mouse - Properties - Advanced - Sample Rate.

Might be in control panel, under hardware - mouse settings.

I've always noticed a fair difference on how smooth a game felt/looked even with a fairly minor FPS change such as 70 and 100 FPS. 150 to 200 has also been noticeable for me, especially in Source engine games. I'm sure it's not just in my head :)

And I'm back....:D nice to see Bioshock waiting for me but I'm back on XP for this game. Having a terrible time with Vista, despite the game running not too badly(seems around 20-25fps @ 1280x1024 not tested yet) on my 2600xt in DX10 mode the game just locks up after a differing amount of play. Tried the hotfix drivers too but oh well plays smoothly on XP anyways!

THe DX10 performance hit seems to be not too bad so far which is obviously a good thing :) hopefully things continue to improve with drivers and patching

locks up for me too.. the drivers are far from sorted for bioshock because the drivers doesn't do crossfire in bioshock yet also..

mmmmm i get around 40-50 @ max settings just on 1 card

that article isn't right..

1. on the 2600xt bioshock doesn't work in dx10 yet because it locks up.
2. they saying they get 30fps in dx9 but i get over 45fps @ 1680x1050 , max, on 1 card. but i can accept this because it depends on the system

Yeah same, usually if games get to like 45FPS or so it's super smooth, on BioShock you can really notice it.

It's the mouse lagging not the game. They have the mouse synced to the FPS or somthing so when the FPS drops you can really feel It, Im sure there is a way to turn it off in the INI.

Are you sure it's not your system causing it to lock up? an overclock maybe?.

If your going off their 1600*1200 benchmark, your 1680*1050 is less pixels which would explain your boost in performance.

my system isn't overclocked. jrodga2k5 has the same problem.. he as a 2600xt card

is 1680x1200 widescreen?

Ah right, must be driver issue then, atleast I hope it is, so you can play with DX10 :).

You mean 1680*1050? then yes it is widecreen.

If you did mean 1680*1200, it is widescreen as well.

1600*1200 is not widescreen but standard 4:3.

I get 40-60fps on max @ 1920x1200 with vsync in crossfire, are you saying that will go up more?
disable crossfire u will see it'll be the same. if it's the same then yes it will go up more. but if it isn't then maybe it's just the 2600xt that isn't support yet in crossfire..

Could someone please double check this for me as I think I'm going mad... either that or bit-tech screwed up their review.

http://www.bit-tech.net/gaming/2007/08/30/bioshock_gameplay_graphics_and_performance/4

Where it starts talking about the graphics settings bit-tech state that for MAXIMUM quality "Global Lighting" should be ON. Then for HIGH quality it can be OFF.

So they say it's better with it on....

bit-tech said:
The high preset curiously isn't maximum quality as global lighting is set to "off" when you set the graphics slider to "high".

However, if you read in the manual (could someone varify this please) it states....

BioShock Manual said:
Force Global Lighting = This enables a one-pass INACCURATE lighting method for dynamic objects, characters and dynamic lights.... this is most observable on characters as they walk around the level, light will pop on/off.

Hmmm!
