Think Giggs can still do a job in the middle of the park, just not as a striker

well thats it, you play him up front and what does he really add to the team in that position. Its not all of Gigg's fault, he is a bit of a fall guy for the system.

if he acted more like an old italian, using strength and ball control to hold the ball up and keep defenders at bay id be more than happy to see him continue in that role, but he cant he just loses the ball too quickly in areas where we need to retain attacking possession.

NOKKONWOOD:
When you get on the back of players like Giggs week in week out season after season then you come out with we should buy such and such a player because he was good in Footy Manager 2006.

cant remember too many instances of that tbh. I see players have a bad game, then do the same thing week in and week out and it dissapoints me.

but when i said watch out for Santa Cruz i wasnt making things up, thats for sure - "5 goal a season" player eh, he'll be there by the end of Sept if he's not already.

You've mixed Nokkon up with Loki there, Nickg. :)

Rumours again today that United are after Berbatov and/or Anelka.
Manchester United are planning a £22m bid for Tottenham striker Dimitar Berbatov but Spurs will want £40m. (Daily Mail)

United's need for a striker also has them chasing Bolton's Nicolas Anelka but they face competition from rivals Manchester City. (Various)
I think I'd prefer Anelka. Mainly because I think he would get us more goals than Berbatov, and that's what we need at the minute. Plus, I think we have more chance of signing him. Not that I'm that full of confidence that we'll get either of them before the transfer window closes.

Another thing, we have Teves now, and i can see a Rooney/Tevez partnership, along with someone like Campbell stepping in, Anelka is older so it suits the role.

Again, id rather money left behind for perhaps a right back.

if we were to buy anelka i think it would work well having basically 2 partnerships, say Rooey / Anelka and Tevez / Saha

also we do need a right back but imho that can wait till next summer, we have Neville and Brown who can play the role with the yougsters if needs must.

Ive said all along we need 4 strikers this season, although i dont think Anelka would like sitting on the bench, CL football is a big draw

If i had the choice between Anelka or Berbatov i'd definitely have Berbatov...

fair enough he will cost a bomb but he can be world class,

lol Nugent would probably be a better short term option, cheap ish and wont get annoyed if benched...

interesting few days for you lot

Might get annoyed. Its Everton he wants to play for, was desperate to play for them but they wouldn't put up the money needed so ended up at Portsmouth. Isn't happy at that and Harry's had enough of him not being bothered, hence why he might be off after just 2 months.

anyone else getting incredibly depressed? i just cant believe we didn't sign a striker, we might as well write off this season now. if Saha gets injured then i dont think we'll do better than mid table, teams have just cottoned on to how to handle our style of play, and when that doesn't work we just dont seem to have anything else to try. Id like to believe that when Ronaldo and Rooney are back we'll be tearing defences apart like we were last season but i just can't see it. I just cant believe the start we've made :(
