Has anyone ever had camping experience here? I am gonna go camping next weekend probably to wales like snowdonia or brecon beacons. The question i have is are you allowed to setup a tent anywhere in the national park/countryside or do you have to go to a designated campsite? Also are you allowed to go fishing in lakes/streams there and can you keep the fishes to cook and eat?
Thanks in advance guys :)

You can but this tends to happen when you are carrying all your kit. Doesnt sound like you are very familiar with it so youre best sticking to a National Trust camp site or something.

A good small camp site away from the beer swilling chav with his 10 kids and barbeque, tend to be the more pleasurable sites.

I spent a wekk walking and camping in the Brecon Beacons. If this will be your first experience, I think you may find it hard.
That's something I'd consider it wise to work up to.

We pitched our tents anywhere we wanted and got no bother, whether or not that's allowed I'm not sure though. Be careful, there are a few military training areas there it can be easy to stumble into.
Fishing? Couldn't tell you.

Going with friends who have camped before. I have experience in the wilderness but stayed in lodges/huts not camped before. Just wanted to know if you are allowed to setup camp anywhere

on the fishing side of things, at the very least you may need a rod licence.

not sure about the legalities of pitching your tent where you want, but if this is the first time you have been camping... as someone has already suggested you may want to read a little further into it.

i go camping a lot, and every time i **** up in some way. forgetting the can opener is as good as it gets lol!

Generally speaking you should be fine camping anywhere. However, if possible, try to find a designated camp site. You should also look around for signs that camping isn't allowed - such as fields with no easy access etc.

Basically use a bit of common sense.

As said you may get moved along so don't get too comfy. Don't be rude either!

From my own experiences in Snowdonia, most people are easy going and are happy to tell you a good place to camp if you ask.
