Living in central london

Con,

I can't offer any advice on where to live, but if you do find a place and move to central London, let me know and we will go for a pint.

Have you asked an estate agent?

That said, I'd rather live just outside London and commute in... I would hate to live in London! :(

You need very deep pockets to buy a pad within 20 minutes walk of Westminster.

quite, the 'luxury' studio (read, a room the size of your parents dining room as your main living space and bedroom and kitchen) apartments start at around 300k, im not spending that much for something like that, when back in Cheltenham I could get an awesome place out in the cotswolds

Right, I've found quite a few apartments in St Georges Wharf are available, and that looks bloody perfect location wise (Right by Vauxhall tube, the big glass buildings going up at the moment

questions....

it says that you can get parking there, but its an additional cost...anyone know anyone who lives or has lived there who has a ballpark idea on cost? when I lived in Chelsea last year the letting agents wanted 400 quid a week for the parking space ontop of the 600 quid a week paid for the rent

I know there is a bar down in the base of one of the tower sections, and i've been there once but the bar was on tab from one of the guys in the office, anyone know how pricey this is?

Did you have a look at Pimlico yet?

we've seen one place thats in those private appartments opposite the office of national statistic right by the tube station (opposite the left hand corner as your coming up the lights on the main road heading towards the bridge, tube station behind you) that looks ok, but its only a 2 bed.

Going to have to go and have a real look round to be sure of where I wanna be really !! :) but Pimlico in places looks really quite nice from what ive seen walking around :)

There's a lot of ex-LA places around there too, which can be had for a decent price considering the location.

Stay in Watford - you know you love it ;)

haha, yeah, about as much as a kick in the teeth ! lol :p

I tried doing the mainline to euston today to see if it was quicker getting to work for my joyous day of overtime, but sadly not by much, 15 minutes if that

it was a much better ride though, a lot better than the clunkety clunk of the tube !

where abouts in watford are you?

I work in london already mate, so happy to meet up for a drink after work sometime ! :)

I am thinking of arranging a London beer and curry night, as I know Will Gill works in London, along with a fair few other OcUK'ers.

Will let you know :)

I can't see you getting a three bedroomed place that close to Westminster with that budget, because it is the pretty much the rental value of my three bedroomed house in Stoke Newington, miles from Westminster. I don't have a garage or any secure parking either.

I've found places in Vauxhall, Oval, and Pimlico that fit the bill for that price :)

You'd be surprised. Go south of the river just a little (still relatively central) and you save a whole lot. Conversely, everything north of the river tends to be pretty expensive. And Stoke Newington doesn't even have the advantage of a tube stop. :(

I am surprised. Those places Conanius mentioned are in zone one!

True enough about the underground, although there will be a stop at Dalston in a couple of years, which will be less than a ten minute walk for Mr Feet-on-Fire (me). I've heard it will be on the Jubilee though, which is as useful to me as a kick in the cods. Also, looking at the map, it's going to make the Jubilee awfully confused & twisted, perhaps worse than the Northern for shape.
