Using 8xSSAA from the CCC here. :) , This game is still fairly demanding running @ 1680x1050 Everything cranked to absoloute max 8xSSAA runs around 50fps AVG on the first level.

I'd say it is yes, but some people gave up on it after the weirdy stuff started occuring about a 3rd of the way in ...

Give it a go - at best it does still look amazing compared to some other games even today !
 
Far Cry is arguably the best singleplayer FPS ever made, in fact it's so good that I bought it again last week and have been playing through again. I run it at 1680x1050x32 max settings (except particle density) 16xAF with HDR and 64bit content on a GTS320, it can still hold its own with pretty much anything graphically.

Gameplay wise what sets it apart from the crowd is that it is both challenging and fun at the same time. Most games that are so unforgiving in terms of enemy AI, long range shooting, harsh terrain etc I would give up on in frustration, but not Far Cry. I can handle being sniped from miles away because I know I can do the same to them, or maybe I don't have to, maybe I can sneak round the side undetected, or just drive straight in with a hummer hosing them down with chaingun and rockets.
 
It's a bit FUBAR'd with the 1.4 official. It 'works' on my 8800 however you get all sorts of transparent textures and stuff, it's like you have wallhack mode on or something.
 
Im using the AMD 64bit patch and Texture pack with the Retail version and it runs great on Vista 64

Still looks half decent today, but them trigents do my head in

That patch only included 1.3 though as 1.4 only supports the standard 32 bit game

I might download it and give it a go then. I tried to play it when it first came out but it ran like a dog on my old GF3 :D
 
can you play multiplayer with this free version , if you do are you playing against people that bougth the game and have cdkeys ?

Just re-register / edit your account details but make sure to set the country to United States when you do and it works fine - I've just logged in with an account I literally just created and it accepted the details no problems :)
 
Downloading from the GamersHell site and for some reason it stopped at 80% :mad:, anyone know how to get these to resume? I'm using flashget download manager.
