Hi,

I've just come across this board, and it looks good. But I have two questions:

1. If you don't use the NB water cooling feature, but just use the heatsinks/passive cooling, does the board run cool?

2. Is this board quiet?

Thanks

It's meant to be a very good P35 board, but it's crazy money when you consider X38 boards should be out in about two weeks for around the same or less money.

That is a good point. And if I knew for certain that a flood of x38 motherboards were gonna come out in about 2 weeks, I'd probably wait, even though I've ordered most of my components.
But chances are, it won't be until October until most are released. And if I wait until then, why not wait another month for the G92, and who knows what will be worth waiting for for another 1-2 months. So I may as well buy it all now.

I have enough money left over for a Blitz Formula, and if the answer to my two questions in the first post is "yes", I may as well buy it. If not, then I will get the Abit IP35 Pro

See thread
You don't have to watercool it.

I think it's become very expensive.
Was in the £160s a few day (maybe weeks) ago incl vat.

Thanks. I'm aware you don't have to water-cool it; that it's set up with passive cooling with the heatpipes. But I've heard that if you don't water-cool it, the northbridge gets very hot.

Re Price: I've managed to find the board for £45 more than I could get for the IP35 Pro.

Theres a graph in that thread that shows the temps using water and not here.

I've seen it around a lot cheaper as well...is this new stock flown in or?

Search by my name, I posted 1st review then added to it on that mobo.

The "Fusion" cooler is said to cool really, really well without adding water, the review site were blown away by its performance.

I've got this board and it's great. Even though i have watercooling i dont use it on the board, it does a good enough job as it is. I've overclocked my Q6600 to 3.8GHz with it! and northbridge never goes over 60c even with increased volts.

As for being quiet: It's quiet if you use air cooling on the CPU as you then dont have to use the two fans that need to be mounted on the board if water cooling is used. But even though i cool my CPU with water cooling i didn't use the two mobo fans, i just have a silent 90mm fan blowing on the boards heatsink, as it cools better and makes no noise.

It's the best Asus board i've had (normally had trouble with em in the past) definitely worth getting.

Word of warning though, if you ever decide to update the boards BIOS, then NEVER do it using Asus' easy flash software. It bricked my last blitz and had to RMA it, its done the same to many others aswell.

Thanks for the replies.

After researching a bit more and thinking about it, I think I will go for the Abit IP35 pro. I'm awaiting two other items before I have everything bar the motherboard. And being so close to the x38, I'm tempted to wait. I have read that the 'official' release date is 9th September, so I may wait until next Monday to see if any news has come out about specific release dates, and if they're not too far off, then I'll wait.
