Recently there've been a few games that require online activation before you can play them... Now this wouldn't be much of a problem, but some of them require you to logon, and download a patch or update etc to install them...

This REALLY gets on my mamory glands (.)(.) as when i purchase a game, i expect it to work (ie, install and run), when i get it home...

I guess i should add, that the reason for this gripe (i wish i could use stronger language on this forum), is that where i live at the moment, i can only recieve a 56k connection speed (moving soon, THANK GOD, and will be on broadband then)... But at the moment, any game that requires any sort of online activation, is preventing me from playing it (especially if i have to download any large patches to activate it), as my games pc is not connected to the internet, and even if it was, it would suck on 56k...

I know these companies are doing this to stop piracy, but its going to force me to get hold of a copy of this game (BIOSHOCK) from elsewhere, so they're loosing a sale, as i was going to buy this game, and have been looking forward to it for a while, but they've decided to SCREW me over as im on 56k... :( Why can't i buy a working copy of this game in the shops?

When will companies realise, they can NEVER stop the pirates, and by "urinating off" their paying customers, they are creating the problem that their trying to prevent... I WOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS GAME.... BUT YOU SCREWED ME, SO I'LL GET IT ELSEWHERE!!!....

Unfortunately any company making a single player only game is asking for trouble and the online activation thingy seemed like a desperate yet pathetic attempt to beat piracy when all they had to do was include an online mode with auth servers.

It says clearly on the box "Important Note: Game requires Internet connection for activation". What's the problem?

You wouldn't buy a car if there was no petrol station for 500 miles. So don't buy a game that requires an internet connection if you can't be bothered to let it go online to activate.

You quite happily spent a few minutes bitching about it on these forums, so I'm sure you could have have it installing/patching/activating/whatever in the background while you were doing it. By the time you had finished whining like a spoilt brat, the game would be ready to play.

Jesus, some people

Have to say, I barely noticed that it needed authorising, it's just part of the install.

But I can see why it annoys some people, like all copy protection once the protection is bypassed it becomes easier to install a dodgy copy than a legit copy.

I think YOU have to except that you in a minority thats so small its both financially and market portion wise, note worth the time...

Yes its unofrtunate, but honestly, why should they have to worry about dial up users, broadbands never been as easy to obtain as it is now, so thats not there fault, not that its yours, is just unfortunate, but a fact...

And online activiation, and all the jazz, IS a good thing, pc gamers have been taking the **** with pirating for years, this sort of thing was going to happen sooner or later, and yes i know, its already been pirated, but thats neither here nor there...

these "honest" gamers that have gone out and pirated and cracked bioshock because of the online activation thing, tyring to get one over on 2k games, i hope there graphics cards explodes and the hds crash beyond repair or recovery...

Have an awesome day folks

Not installed the game myself, but reads like he's got to do a download before activation.

Using a 56k connection to send a registration code is a different kettle of fish to downloading some cobblers to patch the copy protection. So think he's allowed some soap box time.

To be honest, having broadband as a (pretty much) requirement is no different to any other system requirement. He wouldn't be whining if he didn't have enough RAM to play the game or something.

BB requirement is ridiculous though for a SP only game, I know boradband is rly essential atm but imo the game makers are still idiots for requirering inet for an sp game.
The point in sp games is that you don't need internet to play them, when I didn't have inet 24/7, I had to please myself with sp games.

His point is not the activation but the forced downloading of the patch.

If it was just for activation then he would have been able to easily do it with a 56k connection.

Please read the posts before having a bitch yourself. It's crazy that you have to register SP games it is an invasion of privacy and not necessary. Why don't you have to do it with the Xbox version as well then, the Xbox is much easier to crack than the PC.

You don't need to do anything to your pc to play pirated games

You do, for some protections you need to disconnect ** dvd drives etc...
Regardless, what you do to the xbox is only once, then it'll play anything after with no problems, with pc, you have to do something for each game and some games may not work, xbox is way easier to crack, all my mates have a chipped one, And I find it hard to believe anyone below the age of 18 doesn't, as everybody does it.
With pc it's a bigger hassle as you lose time on every game.

activating the game would take you far less time than this post did, so get over it

Pfft another one, READ the posts:

It clearly says on the box online activation required and you could have held off your purchase until you'd moved and got broadband.

Does anyone read this at all?
